Owais Mughal

I saw this photo at treklens.com and thought of sharing it here. Besides ubiquitous natural beauty of Skardu valley, Shangrila resort remains one of the most photographed manmade landmark here.

the place is beautiful but the owner is the worst. He is not only a corrupt person person who confiscated this land from the poor farmers but is also famous for marrying the farmers daughters to get more land in. He has also managed to con people of their money. People representing tourism and the PTDC know him very well. Shameless!

I went to Skardu this summer to see family, the ppl are diff and very peacefull…

this resort is now very outdated and overlypriced as well as the food not being up to scratch, it takes advantage of the fact that it is the only main one there… the interior is still as it was in the 70′s and the management dont really care… its a shame!

One of the coolest places of Pakistan, I once visited Shangrila and was stunned by its beauty. I wonder why Pakistanis are more attracted to Switzerland when they have more beautiful places here, in Pakistan.

Luckily, Skardu is in Baltistan, fair distance from FATA and NWFP. It is safe for now.

The problem is that a vast majority of people lump together the Northern Areas (Gilgit-Baltistan) with the NWFP. As a result, tourist have stopped going there, even the though the area is probably the most peaceful in Pakistan.

Not only is the area different, but the people are also ethnically different. The radicals will not find it easy to get a foothold there.

How long before they burn this down as well like ski resort of Pakistan? Thats how life will be under Taliban. Not a sermon just a thought
