I don’t know Adil bhai. This is probably one of the ‘galliat’. What I think is wrong with the picture is the complete deforestation visible on almost every hill.

    Seems like balakot.

Cannot seem to find any roads?

    Abbotabad?

No idea what’s wrong with it.

i think, it is the city of balakot. which is divided by the fault line. the rebuilding process is going on without any proper planning and earthquake resistance directives……

Balakot is already guessed. I would guess Muzaffarabad. Visible problems are deforestation. Absence of urban planning.

it seems somewhere in the north, most likely somewhere in the nwfp. whereever it is, though, transportation must be by mules. there are no signs of any roads for mechanized transport!

It looks like Abbottabad or Mansehra to me. It’s the unplanned sprawl and deforestation, which is obviously wrong with this city.

yaar, whoever said ‘sheikhupura’ on facebook has made me smile :)

I want to change my guess. my memory of ‘galliat’ is that they were much greener than this. I now think it is either Abbotabad or Mansehra.

    Its a garbage dump.
No scavengers or vultures flying arround?
Because they died from the poisonous food they ate.

This picture got me so intrigued that I spent 30 mintues searching for the right answer and found it.

I will not be the spoiler, but its a heartbreaking and disappointing tale. I will let Adil lead the readers to what is actually wrong with this picture and why.

I guess it because I think I see what is wrong with the picture. It has no people in it. Mingora.

Some more comments from the ATP Facebook Page:

    - “Sheikhupura no way…maybe one of the October earthquake struck city.”
    - “Mansehra…. effected duo to earthquake”
    - “MEnsehra ..i guesss”
    - “i think it is balakot”
    - “Its Muzzafrabad”

Adnan Ahmed bhai. good point. i don’t see any people or vehicles in the photo. That points it to be one of the EQ struck cities. I want to say Balakot but i remember Balakot has raging river kunhar that flows through it and i don’t see the river here – unless this is a view looking away from Kunhar.

Owais, While we are at it, I don’t see any flattened structures or may be my eyes have given up.. My guess is still the Swat City of Mingora. Let’s see..

yet more comments from the ATP Facebook Page:

    - “New York City”
    - “Cairo city”
    - “balakot? no civic amenities!!!”
    - “balako or muzafarabad! abay bhai bolo b to sahi konsa hai!”
    - “excuse me if its a stupid guess but ” Madina Munawara ” pata naheen just had an intution”
    - “Abbottabad”

I think it is Muzaffarabad. I may be wrong.

Looks like Muzaffarabad and it might be a picture after earthquake

  22. Raheel says:

The wrong thing – seems like houses were thrown from above not built. They are so random and without an planning. No roads, no streets, no parks, no vegetation!

Its neither Muzaffarabad, Balakot, abbotabad nor Mansehra! Not a picture from AJK & NA at least.

I believe, it’s town of Mingora or some city from that region.

  23. Adnan says:
    August 21st, 2009 8:08 am

Abbottabad. No roads, streets, lanes visible.

  24. Adnan says:
    August 21st, 2009 8:09 am

    Abbottabad. Haphazard construction.

  25. Owais Mughal says:
    August 21st, 2009 10:04 am

Adnan Ahmad bhai. once again you have a point. Since there are no flattened structures therefore it may not be an EQ struck city after all. Now I think, it may be one of the Swat cities after most of the people there became IDPs. Mingora or Saidu?

  26. AF Ahmad says:

    This is so unfair!

This quiz is geared towards eagle-eyed people who can look for people in this picture and declare there are none. Others who can say with certainty that there are no roads. But the old tired eyes like mine can only see – if you can call it that- some hills, mostly barren but one with ‘V’ shaped vegetation and some structures that could be homes, shops whatever, I can barely tell.

So what’s wrong with this picture?
    It’s too small :-)

the more i look at it, the more itlooks like a junkyard for buildings. is it photoshop editted?

i think this is abbottabad. but i think it doesn’t matter whcih city it is because the heartening thing that i have noticed is the thinning of trees which has not only destroyed the beauty of the place but is also endangering the environment
