ADDENDUM, March 18, 2007: Inzamam announces retirement from ODIs

March 17 and March 18, 2007 proved to be tumultous for Pakistani cricket. At first Pakistan lost to Ireland in a World Cup match which saw Pakistan unqualified for the next round. Next the coach of Pakistan cricket team since 2004, Bob Wolmer had a sad demise in his hotel room and then Inzamam-ul-Haq announced his retirement from the ODIs. The detailed news of Inzamam’s retirement is quoted by Adil Najam below in the comments section. As far as topic of the above post is concerned, it looks like Inzamam’s career will stop after playing 378 ODIs in total.

I agree. Nothis biggest fan, but sad to see him go this way.

Inzi just got out playing his final ODI inning. The following is the text commentary from Cricinfo.com

“And he gets a big standing ovation; each Zimbabwe player jogs over to shake his hand. And as he raises his bat, his Pakistan side all come down to greet their captain who, by now, is in tears. He takes his helmet off, acknowledges the crowd while wiping the tears dry. And 15 years ago today, Inzamam scored 60 off 37 balls to help Pakistan win the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand”.

I never like him as a captain but as a player he ranks among the top few.

What a great cricketer he was, what a sad end to his career. I always liked his down to earth personality. This is a guy who helped pakistani team to rise from the ashes after the last world cup and made it a number 3 ranking team. Hats off to him.

Although Inzimam has made decision because of continueous bad tragedies but Inzimam should play more and leave cricket with honor but not on this moment. Cricket is only a game inwhich winning/losing a game is sure. I think, All pakistanis should encourage Inzimam to fight against these problems.

in my opinion the end of inzamam is an end which is not well suit by a great player . i solute to the career of inzam.
win or loss is the part of game.
but i will b more happy if he summed off his career as imran did.
anyhow pakistan cricket future is now seems to me very blind and oblique.
    but hpe for the best
and a message for young players
