Owais Mughal

Following photo is taken from MB’s blog here.

The image is a cloth banner wishing ‘Happy Indpendence Day to all Pakistanis except those who habitually change their political loyalties (lotay) and those who have regularly plundered national wealth (luteray).’ As you can see the banner message is issued by the PML(N) leader Shahbaz Sharif’s secretariat. I guess Pakistani streets are always a great place to find political commentary!

Hats off to Shahbaz Sharif. It takes guts to sponsor an ad which excludes oneself from the list of those wished well.

Pardon my ignorance for my native tongue is neither Urdu nor Punjabi. But with the little knowledge I have of these languages, all that I know about ‘lota’, is that it’s an object one can never do without unless he is truly westernized. And that more than one ‘lota’ would be collectively known as ‘lotay’.

Is there a link between the this ‘lotay’ and the one mentioned in the post? If so, I would be extremely happy to know more about the same.

I have no intention to hijack the discussion though, but this one’s a serious query.

    Guys,

I wonder what the poor ‘lota’ did to be mocked as it has been. Life without the lota is no life but unfortunately the word has been made the butt of jokes thanks to our politicans. In fact this discussion is similar to one we have had in the UK about the poodle because the war criminal Blair was always referred as Bush’s poodle when the poor poodle as a dog is a classy dog and has never hurt anyone, so I guess the lota and poodle live an unlucky existence owing to circumstances out of their control.

    Lota zindabad

some people here are saying …that Shabaz Sharif is Lota …himself…

    this is wrong….

i know..the escaping from Pakistan was a “political death” of Nawaz and PML(N) ..but Shabaz Sharif opposed it bitterly…

but he have to surrender by virtual black mailing of his father disease etc..then pressure of honurable Khadnmanai Harmanai shareefain…Shah Abdullah etc…

but i think..we have only these 2 brave leaders left in Pakistan..having masses public support and accetable to whole Pakistan …

otherwise..we all know…who knows PM..Shaukat Aziz is famous ..political leader….

    nobody….

so..atleast corrupt like BB and Mushy have a chance ..NAWAZ SHARIF IS THE ONLY OPTION LEFT….

Thanks Owais for selecting this one. Its interesting to note that often in our country those whose sin are the greatest are seen crying foul loud, Shahbaz Sharif Secretariat in this case.

And Adil bhai, “even if I bumped into a rehRi walla as a result!” is a bit risky statement. I have heard Lahore’s traffic is worse than Karachi’s & how would you know the incoming is a rehRi or Tonga or GOD forbid a vehicle.

Notice that the guy is reading the word “lootun”. He is wondering how come a lota put an anti-lota banner here. lolz

    Salamalikum,

Sponsored by Shahbaz Sharif secretariat, the very sign of lotapan and lutarapan….what an irony. These people don’t have even a little shame, but have enough audacity to put something like this up in the face of evidence upon evidence of engaging in horse-trading and scams themselves.

Thanks Owais for putting this up… and thanks MB for the original dig…. I must say when I first saw this my immediate reaction was EXACTLY the same as that of the guy on the bicycle! If I was riding on that bicycle I would be doing exactly what this guy is doing… even if I bumped into a rehRi walla as a result!
