Here is a rather gruesome ad from the Punjab Anti-Narcotics Force, warning prospective pilgrims going for Hajj to Saudi Arabia of the dangers of drug trafficking.
The painted bill board ad makes the point, rather graphically and quite clearly that anyone caught bringing drugs into Saudi Arabia will face death. One wonders, however, if that point is being made a little more graphically than necessary.
The wording on the billboard (seemingly quite large and on an outdoor public location) says:
Don’t unknowingly invite death.
By taking someone’s else luggage or unnecessary foreign or local medications do not put your own life at risk.
Taking narcotics or addictive elements to Saudi Arabia will result in a certain death penalty.
Anti-Narcotics Force (Punjab).
How, I wonder, does a parent explain to a child who sees this billboard why the Arab-looking man is beheading the Pakistani-looking man with such gusto.
One wonders who it is that really gives Muslims a ‘bad name’? The message for the prospective drug smuggler to Saudi Arabia is quite clear. But, what is the message for the rest of us? And the rest of the world?

Mr Jack straw was crticized for his statement by many Britons. They can’t execute him or stich his lips for doing that. The “fact” is that till now in Britain/US our Muslim sister are allowed to wear Hijab. And freedom of religion means people should be allowed to practice their religion freely.
Britons that abuse Muslim women by snatching(harassing) their hijabs when caught are prosecuted and
jailed for hate crimes.
About the Imams, its sad but that incident “does not reflect” that there is no religious freedom. Some people in US suffer from ISLAMOPHOBIA, the Imams were praying in an airport, they are were not stopped from doing that, it was the people who became scared/skeptic and were not wiling to fly with them. Not letting them fly has nothing to do with religiou freedom.
Adnan Bhai,
I used to be very regular at KPC in 99 and 2000. Infact the Internet room was setup by me. I mean I did the installation of the network. Tanveer used to be GS then.
I am not trying to twist facts. I am using them to make a point. I have no grudges against any country. Justifing beheading with low crime rate is just outrages.
You can make a really good point without using statements like these
Baber my friend, in Pakistan we do have access to Internet and we can read what Jack Straw says about Hijab.
YES our relatives DO live in UK and US!
Kindly stop considering us members of some remote village where some stupid Vadera is considered credible than anyone else and people trust him blindly.
I know you guys live over there and clean roads,English language, electronic gadgets have made you excited enough that you just paint everything with a single brush. Good for you but not for everyone.
Arn’t you being very judgmental about me and other Pakistanis living aborad?
Whats happening because of these comparisons is that we are flipping the debate into other directions.
Because of so many comments posted here and the bill board by ANF we now know the views of people on beheading and chopping of hands.
has this discussion not gone on for too long…i think it shows a simple thing…we muslims will always be divided and squabbling among each other…what a pity…
….in my view the real pity is that there is not enough squabbling in the muslim world.
should we not be worrying about what happens in Pakistan and leave Saudi Arabia to Saudis!
Not when they are cutting *our* throats too. :)
Adnaan, you clearly lack an understanding of what freedom of speech actually means. Simply because you have the freedom to say anything does not mean that you will be protected from all consequences by the government. Other people in their private capacities can choose to cut you off, not to deal with you, not to speak with you, not to fund you and whatever they can do legally. FOE only means that the government is not going to partake in curbing free speech and if they do (and sometimes they do), there are courts available for precisely that reason which are resorted to (more often than necessary) and govt. decisions are challenged and overturned all the time.
It better be a rhetorical challenge when you asked to produce similar examples in Saudi Arabia; that just sounds too easy.
