The division of opinion between the column writers of Urdu and English press in Pakistan has been quite stark in the past few years. May be we are generalizing the above statement too much but some degree of truth is not hidden from any regular reader of both Urdu and English print media. In the last few days, we have seen a significant increase in the number of Urdu columnists who admit that they can’t deny the ugly reality that Pakistan has become the hub of bad guys and we need to act now for the sake of our own future. Some examples of this new shift is evident from today’s (12/21) Jang columns:
(1) Sadiq Saleem’s “mohazib dunya ka hissa baniye”,
(2) Rauf Klasra’s “jang se bachna hi bahaadri hoti hai” and
(3) Jeevan Khan’s “qaumi salamti ke taqaazay”.

Yes Rauf Klasra is a wonderful journalist. One finds his writings imbued with sincerity and passion. He is credited for unearthing scams particularly, when tax payers money is misused. This is what should be the role of media.
I like the way he wants to see Pakistan for our next generations and also is very sensitive about gender and inequality issues.

You guys are amazing. You think just because columnists are writing what you believe in, they are coming to their senses. You are as far from ground realities as you are in your distance from Pakistan.
Now the English press especially their Op-Eds every week have at least one column blaming Shaukat-Musharraf credit fueled policies for current economic crisis of Pakistan. Urdu press had been saying that for a long time but it took English press this long to come to its senses. There is no mention of foresight of Urdu press in this regard.
We believe people are coming to their senses just because they say with what we believe.
I read Jang, Express, Ummat and BBCUrdu Everyday before even brushing my teeth and i think for every 1 realistic Urdu columnist there are
- 5 Urdu Columnists who bash Terrorists and also bash Amreeca to depict neutrality
- 5 Urdu Columnists who only bash Amreeca, India, Jews and any Pakistani who appear to be liberal.
- 5 Urdu Columnists who Bash Amreeca and subtly promote sympathies for terrorists
- 2 Urdu Columnists who wants to (and genuinely think Pakistan can) create islamic caliphate rule all over the world. Every thing terrorist do is fair and praisable for this great purpose.
No wonder we read 10 times more columns on conditions of Indian Muslims then of those Pakistani Muslims who are stranded in Bihari camps in Bangladesh for 3 generations.

I guess you were not able to read the Urdu language Op-eds; because, if you understood the significance of this Topic in Pakistaniat.com then you may have rephrased your statement below. The fact that the (usually jingoistic) Urdu press in the largest Urdu language newspaper in Pakistan is getting a lot of powerful media people asking to re-think the attitude viz a viz the Jihadi organizations and India is a major development. While newspapers like http://www.dawn.com or http://www.dailytimes.com.ok or http://www.thenews.com.pk have taken the lead to pull Pakistan back from the 1980′s Jihadi mindset the Urdu language newspapers are a little late–but not too late.
Give we Pakistanis some credit. We have been engaged in a ‘decisive’ battle in the Bajaur Agency for months. That ain’t phony.
