Following photo is taken from MB‘s blog here.
The image is a cloth banner wishing ‘Happy Indpendence Day to all Pakistanis except those who habitually change their political loyalties (lotay) and those who have regularly plundered national wealth (luteray).’ As you can see the banner message is issued by the PML(N) leader Shahbaz Sharif‘s secretariat. I guess Pakistani streets are always a great place to find political commentary!
Dear BD
A Lota in political terms is an opportunistic politician who changes his political ideology and alligns himself with the ruling party. Why are they called a Lota? mainly because a lota tends to rollover in unpredictable fashion because of its spherical design. IMHO, its just a bit “cultured” way of calling a turncoat politician an “ass wipe” or something just filthy.
Well, dawa-i-dil says that “Nawaz is only option left”. Just like I hate mixing of religion and state, in same way i hate mixing of business and government because it creates monoply.
Nawaz is guilty of above crime. I know many personal stories how his son-in-law was involved in pressing banks to give their mill( itefaq foundry) large loans. If we beleive in rule of law then no “lota”, “luteera” or “Qatil” should be welcome.
Get new leadership in existing parties.
Hats off to Shahbaz Sharif. It takes guts to sponsor an ad which excludes oneself from the list of those wished well.
Shabaz sharif is not lota…NS did mistake..but he is now willing to pay back the debt…

Pardon my ignorance for my native tongue is neither Urdu nor Punjabi. But with the little knowledge I have of these languages, all that I know about ‘lota’, is that it’s an object one can never do without unless he is truly westernized. And that more than one ‘lota’ would be collectively known as ‘lotay’.
Is there a link between the this ‘lotay’ and the one mentioned in the post? If so, I would be extremely happy to know more about the same.
I have no intention to hijack the discussion though, but this one’s a serious query.
