Lately no news coming out of Pakistan seem to be good news. This afternoon I started writing about Benazir’s return in lighter words focusing on hilarious statements coming out of our politicians on her return and then this horrific news of scores of people dead started coming in. My lighter mood vanished totally and now I am left wihout words and more questions like, Why? Who? what now? etc.

The headline news on CNN reads as follows right now:

An explosion near the motorcade of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killed at least 110 people and injured 200 more, officials say. Bhutto, returning after years in exile, reportedly was unhurt.

While we are glad that she remained safe, our sincere prayers are with those innocents who lost their lives.

  1. TEE BEE – I agree with you completely –

I AM TIRED AND DISGUSTED AT WHAT THESE PEOPLE WILL DO TO MY COUNTRY.

I wish I can confidently say, lets join hands and make things better, sadly I said that barely five months back – nothing happened then and the killers went scott free most probably setting a bad example for others to try and test the system again, and test they sure did, leaving 100 dead and over 200 injured.

    ALLAH PLEASE HELP PAKISTAN

This had to happen. This had to. As you sow so shall you reap Pakistan.

Way back in 90s i firmly believed Pakistan had indeed lost the Afghan WAR when we use to confidently tell the whole world that we threw USSR out of Afghanistan. At that time no one would believe but just yesterday while i was discussing with a new junior in office about politics he was very much convinced that indeed we actually have lost that WAR at the cost of something we are experiencing NOW.

Its 4:30am PST in Karachi & i am sitting in my office at Shara-e-Faisal ever since yesterday afternoon, thanks to BB and her arrival but all of this mess means nothing to what i heard late night (early morning) now.

Its indeed painful to see the common man once again paying for the SINs of its leadership. All parties (particularly PPP) will now start finger pointing but from past experience i am sure either ISI or the militant Taliban are behind this ( or may be BOTH). Its understood that why would Taliban go after her but if someone is puzzled at me pointing towards ISI then dont be. Our highly intelligent and skillful ISI can come up with most amazing plans. This i know more confidently know that from inside news that came to me from people i know personally who were involved in LAL-MASJID drama i am damn sure future planning and personal agendas matter more to ISI than public. This can benefit MUSH in many ways. (1) Everyone will now talk about this blast instead of her BIG-WAY arrival , good for Chaudhries & ARBAB (2) BB was welcomed in ISI style and she was immediately brought to the ground by making her aware that establishment still has the STICK in hands in PAKSITAN and BB needs not to be jumping too much when sharing POWER. The GHQ, as i mentioned in KMB post will in the end decide who is getting how much from the DEAL. (3) An impressive way to tell USA that Pakistan is still TALIBAN heaven and USA still needs pakistan ARMY and MUSH to stay in some form of POWER if it wants to win , an illusion MUSH has been perfectly creating ever since 911 (4) Fear suits POWER and we know who are the power pillars here. When a president of a 160 million souls threatens its SUPREME COURT that “IF” he is elected/selected ONLY THEN he will quit his UNIFORM, one should understand what sort of rules and principles govern that country. Look at the mentality of a president who humiliates the CJ of that country that way ours did , we should understand what actually would be going BEHIND SCENEs, who pulls the strings, who calls the shots. It is this warning (dhumki) that forced our not-ALL-brave judiciary to back off and say YES SIR to ARMY.

This all can be rejected with the typical conspiracy theories but in a land where truth is always a casualty, and there is no way ( chance) of your finding truth , all we can do is make our assumptions.

There is no way MQM can be behind this. Thats not their style anyhow. They are not idiots to waste their men for BB and in this fashion. Suicide is not the word in their dictionary.

A high level of ABC commission may follow but we all know what it would be about. All in all, another day of misery in PAKISTAN, another day of carnage but the ruling junta is sleeping peacefully in their palaces. They will wakeup tomorrow, and start giving their views on TV channels & in a week or so this will become history like May 12.

    History never stops repeating.

Based on news reports, it seems like the second bomb was a suicide attack. Baitullah Mehsud and the Taliban seem to have remained true to their word when they claimed that “suicide bombers would welcome Benazir”

  4. ur glad that she is safe?
lets have a total crash down, once and for all.
how come all the corrupt people (even if they r not convicted for 11 odd years) get away at such a blast…

sometimes its better to take the ventillator off and ease the pain of a dying political system….

and i know this is crap…
