Adil Najam

Having produced such humorous poetry giants as Anwar Masood, Dilawar Figar and Khalid Masood Khan, it is obvious that Pakistan is fertile ground for mazahia shayeri. The works of Inayat Ali Khan, Khalid Irfan, and others shows that there is absolutely no dearth of subject matter to laugh at. Another new voice is that of Zahid Fakhri.

I had heard the audio version of his punjabi poem shohar ki faryad aur begum ki iltija (a.k.a. kadi tey paikay jaa nee begum) (above) quite some while ago but recently saw this video. (Personally, I think the funniest line is in the response from the wife where she says “raati kaiRey daftar lagdey?”)

In looking for more on him, I also found this interesting Urdu poem (similar theme, see below) on the “saali” coming in from abroad to spend her vacations in Pakistan.

What is interesting, however, is that in searching on him I found multiple pages on links to the audio and video of these two poems but nothing on teh poet himself. I really do hope that some readers might be able to fill in those details. Zahid Fakhri is obvioulsy funny and obviously talented. He also deserves a biography!
