ATP Team
It has come to our attention that on some browsers visitors are having problems with the page loading up. In particular, the two right-hand columns get pushed down to the bottom of the page. We have also recently been hit by larger-than-usual spam and as a result it seems that many legitimate comments unintentionally get directed towards spam (for example, you post a comment and it just simply disappears).
This post was inspired by my recent trip to Istanbul — my first ever to Turkey. Turkey is probably the only country left where Pakistanis are still received warmly. Pakistanis know Turkey not only as another Muslim country but a country that was home of the caliphate (Khilafat-e-Osmania) for several centuries. They also know Turkey because of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (died 1938). Pakistanis rate Ataturk very high among the Muslim leaders, somewhere close to Quad-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. We also have a major road named after him in Islamabad called Shahrah-e-Ataturk.
I found this photo at treklens.com. It immediately made me compare the peaceful animal coexistence with our own political situation. This photo is from Quetta, Pakistan and photo credits are below.
Dear Readers,
While All Things Pakistan has remained alive and online, it has been dormant since June 11, 2011 - when, on the blog's 5th anniversary, we decided that it was time to move on. We have been heartened by your messages and the fact that a steady traffic has continued to enjoy the archived content on ATP. While the blog itself will remain dormant, we are now beginning to add occasional (but infrequent) new material by the original authors of the blog, mostly to archive what they may now publish elsewhere. We will also be updating older posts to make sure that new readers who stumble onto this site still find it useful.
We hope you will continue to find ATP a useful venue to reflect upon and express your Pakistaniat. - Editors
