Adil Najam

Many of you would already have seen this photograph.

It shows a policeman (of the Punjab Police, I believe) helping hang billboards showing the election symbol of ‘bicycle.’ The bicycle, by the way, is the electoral symbol of the ruling party PML(Q), whose supposed Prime Ministerial candidate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is the Chief Minister of Punjab and, therefore, the direct boss of this poor cop.

By the way, from the look of it this official van is holding lots of other billboards; most likely with the same symbol. For the uninitiated we should note that the Blue Toyota Hilux vans are the vehicle of choice for the Punjab Police. Also note the word (in Urdu) ‘Police’ at the back of the van and the green number plate. Both signifying that this is an official government vehicle. The policeman, of course, is also in official uniform - duly armed - and ‘assisting’ in what is clearly political campaigning.

My first thought had been to ask people to suggest a funny title for this… maybe something like “Police ka hai farz madad aap ki!” (It’s the Police’s duty to help you) which used to be the slogan of the police service. However, there is very little about this picture that is funny. And their is plenty that is truly disturbing.

    @Rahim Khan

    You are right Musharraf lovers are totally blinded by the currents of history, which doesn’t recognize any one as great or small, but just absorbs them into its infinite super black hole what many call the dust-bin of history.

    History has been very “cruel” to many “giants” like the minion “Musharraf”. History didn’t make the Giants of yore to live forever just because they were “great”. Ultimately all of them proved to be mortal even when proclaimed by themselves to be Gods and what not. As somebody rightly said “Graveyards of the world are full of indispensable people.”

    I think Police is placing those signs on the road not taking away lol just a joke but who cares.
    I think from the beginning Mushraf should have taken his uniform off and planed rigged elections why have thief of Pakistan to run the elections anyway?
    I hope this elections are not fair and Mushraf should make sure to bring the right people to top. Its ok to have unfair election if they are done for the interest of Pakistan, Enough of stupid propaganda and pressure.
    In order to have fair elections first educate people of Pakistan and go after the corrupt politicians who buy votes.
    Allah Bless Pakistan
    Mushraf jeo hazarooo saaal

    There is no need for negativity or for propaganda against Mushraf. He is the Hero of Pakistan and time will prove this.I stick with my thought Pakistan has enemies in Pakistan why look out side.
    Keep your eyes and ears open , report abnormal activities to authorities.

    Only fools could expect free and fair polls under Musharraf that is the lesson to be learned, but oddly many amongst us haven’t yet any lessons.
