The video to the right is from BBC urdu and is making runs on Internet these days. It shows the Independence Day events of August 14, 1947. One can see rare glimpses of people and events here including Mr. Jinnah, Lord Mountbatten, Liaqat Ali Khan, Fatima Jinnah, Lady Mounbatten etc.The video does not have any audio. I wish there was some sound to it too.Other historic videos of 1947 and Pakistan’s creation can be seen in earlier ATP posts, here and here.

Thanks for sharing this jewel. What one reads about Jinnah’s dignified manners can clearly notice them in this video. Pakistan would have been a different country had he lived for an other few years. The country still hasn’t recovered from the loss.

    – woh ajeeb log woh qaaflay,
jo na bhatak sake jo na rukk sake
jo chaman saja ke chale gai
hamein yaad hain, hamein yaad hain-
woh tamaam din, woh tamaam ghumm
jo guzar gai, hamein yaad hain.

The above is an extract from a poem by Jamiluddin Aali.
    Sincerely
    Naseer

    Thank you Asma Mirza-
It seems you have access to such treasures we would like to copy in our computers and show it to our children.
Why can’t this be sent to youTube or other places.
    WE download songs etc-
WE should download this in our mobile phones as my mobile screen in the beautiful fluttering Pakistan flag.
    Thank you Asma,
    Sincerely
    Naseer

Thanks Asma for sharing this very precious and invaluable video. Mountbatten had earlier vitiated the atmosphere by his indecent insistence of being the first Governor-General of both India and Pakistan. It goes to the credit of both Mr Jinnah and Mountbatten that they gave very little reflection of their true feelings for each other and carried themsleves with dignity.

I wonder why such films are not in our own archives. It is essentially our history too, and I am sure BBC will not turn down an official request from GoP for such materials as long as they carry the BBC logo. There is a Quaid-i-Azam Papers Project in the Archives Section of the Cabinet Division headed by an elderly gentleman. Will Asma volunteer to seek his support for this noble cause. We need to show these videos to our children and grand-children so that they are not misled by self-seeking individuals.

And I am told endlessly Muslims have a problem with women’s rights?

you would have been told by leftist liberals most of the time who despise Shariah as some Infidel hates Ka’ba. What Jinnah did was practical implementation of What he studied about Islam and Shariah. As he said himself in past:

It is my belief that our salvation lies in following the golden rules of conduct set for us by our great lawgiver, the Prophet of Islam. Let us lay the foundations of our democracy on the basis of true Islamic ideals and principles(Civil, Naval, Military and Air Force Officers at Khaliqdina Hall Karachi on 11th October 1947)

    and

What is it that keeps the Muslims united as one man, and what is the bedrock and sheet-anchor of the community. It is Islam. It is the Great Book, Quran, that is the sheet-anchor of Muslim India. I am sure that as we go on there will be more and more of oneness, one God, one Book, one Prophet and one Nation(All-India Muslim League, Karachi on 26th December 1943)

But unfortunately Pakistan was hijacked by “ignorants” as described by Jinnah in following speech who are called so called “Liberals” today:

Every Mussalman knows that the injunctions of the Holy Quran are not confined to religious and moral duties. From the Atlantic to the Ganges, says Gibbon, the Holy Quran is acknowledged as the fundamental code, not only of theology, but of civil and criminal jurisprudence, and the laws which regulate the action and the property of mankind are governed by immutable sanctions of the will of God”. Everyone, except those who are ignorant, knows the Holy Quran is the general code of the Muslims(message of Eid to the Muslims in September 1945)

Unfortunately, Jinnah’s Pakistan was hijacked by such ignorant literate class and bunch of crappy fudal tribes of that time who are still ruling over this country.

Thank you! That was one decent gathering, disciplined undertaking in the video AND
there was another after 60 years at the airport greeting “Mr Nawaz sharif”.Not a single representative of female gender.
    All men PUSHING AND SHOVING.
Reason was picking on Nawaz sharif because he had twice the opportunity and still has nt done anything impressive so far.
Rest will get their share later.
