Hamid Gul is a Jihadi nutcase. He should fade into oblivion where he belongs. The less said about Aslam Beg the better.
I am still in shock over this latest episode. I don’t know what to think anymore. My only instinct is to wipe these jihadi serpents out ruthlessly, but that is probably more emotion than anything else. I agree that we need a civilian Govt to give actions legitimacy. The problem is that the Mush Govt is so discredited that even if they do something right, it is considered dubious.
Faraz, yesterday I had the pleasure of listening to Aslam Baig on Meray Mutabiq with Dr. Shahid Masood. Mr. Baig kept saying that this whole Lal Masjid fiasco is a “sazish” to divide us and kept criticizing the actions taken by the govt. alone. When he said the word “sazish” about twenty times, a bemused Shahid Masood was forced to ask whose sazish it was. At first Baid ignored the question and kept repeating the defeatist mantra; upon furthur inquiry, he mentioned that it was an Indian sazish and then brought up some plan between India and USA to destroy the muslims. Dr. Shahid was not to be duped; he asked again “what has this got to do with India ?” upon which Baig wandered into entirely some entirely different discussion and just neven came back to the sazish theme again.
And to think that this guy was not only the military chief, he was also the President of Pakistan !
Kruman Hamid Gul is a mad man and I will question his judgement because he is dying to help Taliban in Afghanistan. Mr Aslam Beg has already anounced that Taliban are freedom fighters.
These bombers can attack lawyers movements because they are not against just Musharaf. They are against our whole civilization.
As I said earlier, Musharaf and army can not solve the problem without help of an free civilian PM. Right now he and army are taking all pressure themself. They need to distribute the pressure and he needs to give-up uniform.
I don’t understand why people keep referring to this as a domestic political issue. These suicide bombers are not from PML-N or PPP or ANP or even JUI. These folks are terrorists with no regard for the affairs of this world. They don’t have a purpose in mind; conflict itself is their purpose. There is an entire generation of brain-dead people who have been breeding in the border madrassahs for years; at first their modus operandi was armed conflict but given the perceived success of the tactics of their brethren in Iraq via suicide bombings, a bomb vest is their new weapon of choice. They have no demands except to be left alone to plan more conflict and to conquer the world for their faith.
What to do about them? I don’t have the faintest idea. If Americans couldn’t control them in Iraq, how can the Pakistani forces do it in Pakistan? If the army hits back, there will be more mayhem…..in Lahore, Karachi, no place is off limits for their kind. I assume that one alternative is to succumb to the blackmail and let them do whatever they want to do in the country…..but then we’ll just become an extension of Afghanistan rather than the other way round as had been envisioned by the previous generation.
While All Things Pakistan has remained alive and online, it has been dormant since June 11, 2011 - when, on the blog's 5th anniversary, we decided that it was time to move on. We have been heartened by your messages and the fact that a steady traffic has continued to enjoy the archived content on ATP.
While the blog itself will remain dormant, we are now beginning to add occasional (but infrequent) new material by the original authors of the blog, mostly to archive what they may now publish elsewhere. We will also be updating older posts to make sure that new readers who stumble onto this site still find it useful.
We hope you will continue to find ATP a useful venue to reflect upon and express your Pakistaniat. - Editors

And I also agree with you about Hamid Gul.

“Question: The lawyers’ movement is the biggest and most potent movement against Musharraf. Why would a suicide bomber attack them?”
My understanding is that the camp that was hit belonged to PPP who have whole-heartedly supported the actions against Lal Masjid.
