Lately no news coming out of Pakistan seem to be good news. This afternoon I started writing about Benazir’s return in lighter words focusing on hilarious statements coming out of our politicians on her return and then this horrific news of scores of people dead started coming in. My lighter mood vanished totally and now I am left wihout words and more questions like, Why? Who? what now? etc.
The headline news on CNN reads as follows right now:
An explosion near the motorcade of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killed at least 110 people and injured 200 more, officials say. Bhutto, returning after years in exile, reportedly was unhurt.
While we are glad that she remained safe, our sincere prayers are with those innocents who lost their lives.
zabt laazim hai magar dukh hai qayamat ka
zalim ab ke bhi na roay ga to mar jaaye ga
Words can not describe sadness. 130+ people dead and 300+ wounded.
We must understand the depth of a problem our nation and Muslim Ummah faces due to Neo-Kharji /Wahabhi threat and their cowardly acts of terrorism.
I must say and all those born in sixties would agree that Pakistan was anything like this before 1980.
Extremism and terrorism is greatest threat we as nation face.
I would like to post my sincere condolences to the loved ones of those who were killed and injured in today’s blast.
Over one hundred killed. For what? For exercising their right to assemble as free people?
Unlike many people here, as an “outsider”, I do not know Ms. Bhutto’s past track record or anything about alleged corruption. But one thing is certain. The Good Lord has created a situation where the country needs real leaders – with ability and courage, who can put the country ahead of anything else. It is an opportunity for her – should she be able to rise up to it, her past record will be considered a mere side note to what she can achieve in the rest of her career!
Today’s events are distressing – benumbingly distressing! But there is no other real way except to move forward! That is the only way not to stay stuck where the country has been for far too long.
May all who dies rest in peace.
Whole Northern Pakistan Area and Afghanistan is under Millitants control and they are spreading thier venom in other cities too including Islamabad. Bnazir vowed to root out Bin Laden that’s why they targetted her procession. Now whoever tries to hurt them is their enemy. This time it happened to be PPP.
very bad but pakistan men to ye her roz hota hai.
So we have the usual blaming the victim comments. Lets just read it for what it is…a cowardly attack on someone peacefully celebrating a democratic right. Whatever our politics, lets keep our perspective and pray for the families that lost dear ones.
Thank you, Muse, for Agha Shahid Ali’s beautiful rendition.
