Asma Mirza

Few days back I spotted this picture in DAWN, taken in a family park of Lahore.

I had to look closer to get an idea of merriness in the Merry Go Ride. Clinging at a good 180 degree the risk is just too evident.

Considering the usual state of maintenance at such parks, I personally won’t opt for riding one. Would you?

I also had to look closer, like most of you, in order to understand the bearings of the picture. I don’t know what most people think about such rides, but I personally don’t like them. But we humans, always opting to play with danger, crossing the limits and killing our fears, want to go further and beyond the otherwise humanly boundaries of fun.

I’m thinking, how does one get on this ride?

trust me, incidents happen in such rides outside Pakistan as well, even on rides that are well maintained.

So you never know what’ going to happen when.

Last year, a cable from one of the rides snapped and cut both feet of a girl.

I think your concern is not misplaced.

I recall an incident a few years ago, where I live, when some people lost their lives while taking a ride on a similar contraption, mainly because of lack of proper safety precautions.

I have taken this ride but trust me it just seem spooky by looking other people on it. Otherwise free fall or pirate boat are more terrifying than this.
Yes! Pakistani maintenance is not trust worthy but these are recently installed in Lahore so not much to fear now. Lets give a try, its fun…
I can’t say about their condition after two years.
