Adil Najam

I had convinced myself that I will give the fake degree issue a little break on these pages. But the honorable Chief Minister of Baluchistan, Mr. Aslam Raisani just won’t let me.

This statement from him, made to journalists covering the Baluchistan Assembly session, needs little explanation, but is worth hearing.

“Mera mohqaf saaf hai. Degree, degree hota hai. Woh asli ho ya jaali ho.”“My position is clear. A degree is a degree. Whether it is real or fake.”

But much more revealing that this statement, is the second part of the video. When asked whether it will effect the government if fake degree holders were removed, the Mr. Raisani goes into a rehearsed statement about how he will not let anyone use our land to launch attacks on any ‘humsaiya mulk’ (neighboring country). I am not sure if I understand the logic here. Nor am I sure that he does!

Give him a break yaar. I do not think he meant it the way it is being taken.

Another PML-N punjab MPA bites the dust:

“The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench disqualified PML-N MPA Malik Yasir Raza, acting on a petition challenging the validity of Raza’s educational certificate.

Raza said that the decision of the LHC was unjust and vowed to file an appeal in the apex court against the verdict.

The petition challenging the MPA’s intermediate certificate was filed by Ishtiaq Mirza. Justice Khwaja Imtiaz Ahmad of the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench had, earlier, reserved his judgement of Malik Yasir Raza.

Ishtiaq Mirza had also been a candidate from PP-13, the same constituency where Malik Yasir Raza got elected in 2008.

There have been many cases of parliamentarians being disqualified for holding fake degrees in the past. Following much uproar, the HEC sent out 934 parliamentarians’ degrees for verification to relevant universities across the country on June 29.”

    – “Terrible!!!”
    – “MashAllah ….. m speechless ….”
    – “CJ should eliminate all fake degree holders from this parliament. How could they even make amendments in constitution when they aren’t even capable to do that!”
    – “hahah nice logic from CM…
@ali khan if we implemented your logic that CJ should remove all people who don’t deserve to sit on their position then most of the government organization would be empty then who will sit on their position?
    think about outcome as well”
    – “Bill Gates did not have a degree, Steven Jobs did not have a degree, Abdul Sattar Edhi does not have a degree. Unfortunately the standard of education in Pakistan has gone down so much that part of me agree’s with the CM statement. To be educated you may not need a degree & we need educated people to represent us in the Parliament. Unfortunately at present we have a lot that is not only illiterate despite having degree’s but also more into ‘Public is my Servant’ than the other way around”
    – “surely lying and/or faking a degree is a problem?”
    – “^^ I agree! That is my point that illiterate are those who use fake degree’s to place themselves in the position of power. They should be made an example of under the law”
    – “For each Bill Gates who succeeded without a degree there are thousands and thousands of thousands who did not. So, that is not much of an argument. Just like there are some who have wasted their degrees and education, but that does not mean that education is not important. Anyone who thinks so shoudl take their kids out of school maybe.”
    – “We are facing the current wave of problems because we do not place importance on EDUCATION.These big Degree-less Asshole are ruining our future and tarnishing the future prospects of our country..Whereas the argument of Bill Gates and Jobs is concerned they are not the policy makers in US they are businessmen.Policy making always is the job of the educated and experts in their fields”
    – “and i do not think Nawab sahib ever went to any college or school. His best qualification is being a sardar of a Blauch Tribe…”
    – “Please do not spread provincial hatred. These fake degree wallahs come from all parts and all provinces.”

  4. Farrukh says:

I think what he is saying is unreasonable and idiotic. But what is even more unreasonable and idiotic is the comment from Asim Kaleem up there because Asim Kaleem is promoting stereotyping and hatred.

Bhai, there are fake degree wallas from all cities and all privinces. From Jahil Alims onwards they are all liars.

By the way, can someone check Mr. Asim Kaleem’s degree because from his hatred filled comment it does not seem that he has much of an education either!

  5. Unaiza Fatima says:

My worst fear is that this democratic lawmaker does not even know what a ‘degree’ is. God help us and our country.
