Adil Najam

What is the most appropriate word for ‘GanDeri’ in English?

I have puzzled over this for long and asked a number of friends. The best I got was ’sugarcane cut-piece’; where ‘cut-piece’ is itself a peculiar Pakistani-ism, if not Pinglish.

Both photographs have been blogged from Flickr.com. The one with the boy enjoying a ganDeri on top of a gaDDa was originally uploaded by PakPositive; the one of the guy cutting pieces of ganDeri was originally uploaded by go2net.
