In an uncivilized turn of events, the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan was manhandled at the Punjab University Campus today. He was later arrested by the police. A group of students kept him detained on the campus and later turned him over to the police. According to Dawn’s Report:

Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan was arrested from outside the Punjab University’s new campus on Wednesday after he had been manhandled and detained in the campus allegedly by activists of the Islami Jamiat Talaba. Imran Khan had gone to the university at the invitation of a joint action committee of students.

The visit had been approved by Qazi Hussain Ahmed, chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, to which the IJT is affiliated. On his arrival at the campus, the PTI chief was confronted reportedly by a group of IJT activists who kicked him around and punched him. They took him to a room in the Centre for High Energy Physics and detained him there for about 45 minutes.

This is an interesting (and sad) turn of events. Imran Khan’s party and the mother party of IJT are both partners in APDM. Imran and Qazi have been seen together in many media photo shoots for the past year or so. Will today’s action by IJT guys will cause long term bad-blood between the two parties? It is left to be seen.

We strongly believe that inspite of political differences, no person deserves physical bashing and humiliation as was met out to Imran. Political differences should never be taken to such extreme where people use force to get their point across. It is wrong. Shame on those who manhandled him. I was recently reading an article on political bashing in the Wall Street Journal. It had a punch line which just kept resonating with me. It read:

Our politics suffer when passions overcome reason and vitriol becomes virtue.

Details on Imran’s manhandling can be read here, here, here and here.

Whatever happened with Imran Khan in Punjab University is a sham and jamiat will never be in a position to get rid of this act. The whole leadership of this organization should resign and appologize.

Yesterday I heard some leader of JI saying that it was ISI men pretending to be IJT members who manhandled and helped Imran Khan arrested. He further said that JI has formed a committee that will investigate the matter in order to have a clear picture of the situation and those IJT students found envolved will be dealt with accordingly.
As for a personal experience, I’ve always found the IJT activists as high flying who don’t hesitate to resort to violant acitivities on campus. But it is beyond my comprehension why the hell they involved in such an activity becuase Imran Khan’s Tehrik-e-Insaaf gels quite well with Qazi’s JI. Moreover the current national scenario doesn’t allow anyone sane to indulge in such a shameful acitivity. All in all it is extremely unfortunate to treat perhapes the best of current political leaders and national hero with such a cruelty. Let’s reiterate the message what Imran Khan is trying to convey; the message of hope; of movement and of struggle to free our dear homeland from the clutches of this moronic millitiary regime.

    Bhalay Dino’n ki aas hay!

    Yeh jabr ki faseel jo,
    Kharhi hui hay chaar soo,
    Yeh zulm ki kahania’n,
    Jo meray aas paas hai’n,
    Tho kya hua?
    Hamari rooh-o-jaan may,
    Bhalay dino’n ki aas hay,
    Watan mera udaas hay.
Watan pay raaj kar rahi hay teergi,
    Yeh teergi,
Jo roshni ki aik hi kiran,
Ko dekh kar hi apna khatma,
    Karaigi,
    Woh roshni,
    Hamaray aas paas hay,
    Awaam ka jo zoor hay,
Yeh waqt ka jo shoor hay,
    Jamhooriat ki aor hay,
    Yeh jabr ki faseel ab,
    Gira keh hi rahaingay hum,
    kahania’n yeh zulm ki,
    Mita keh hi rahaingay hum,
    Hamari rooh-o-jaan may,
    Bhalay dino’n ki aas hay,
    Watan mera udaas hay…
    Watan mera udaas hay…

well said ayesha but also bother to mention Army person duties ,their only duty is to guard pakistan not rule the country, create political parties, interfere in Judiciary, interfere in Media…if Army dogs remain in their barracks then things would be pretty much resolved…start from where it require most ,always don’t expect from civil societies to act

It is indeed sad what happened to Imran Khan but some where earlier i said on this post that if all of us combined as a nation keep doing what we are meant to do , things would not go so ugly and out of hand and a saner head will prevail which will give us all an oppertunity to tackle this mess in a much better manner.

The students have no place playing politicians and lawyers have no place playing martyres and protesters.

The only way we can help our nation/country is by being honest to the work we do. Lets just take these two factions of society for now. If the students keep to thier classes and study to become better usefull citizens of the future, a lot of our problems will be solved. Similarly if the lawyers can instead of bycotting courts , appear in courts and tackle the long awaiting cases, the woes of so many ppl will be solved.

It goes on for so many of us. We are least concerned about what WE have to do and how WE should conduct ourselves and what WE believe in and more worried about what the OTHER person is up to.
With that set of mind , its no wonder where we are today !

-just another day of Shame has seen its dawn in Pakistan,

it looks like a minority is disturbing the PEACE.

looks like the majority wants a change in the status quo that has prevailed for so long in Pakistan.

We all just have to keep doing what we all have to do.

The people of Pakistan Will overcome .
The people of Pakistan will be victorious.
