Following yesterday’s murderous attack on Islamabad, Karachi has been rocked today by a series of blasts (seven reported till now).

According to The News:

One person was killed and 50 others injured in a series of 6 blasts that ripped through different areas of the busiest city of country on Monday. Two explosions occurred here in Banaras area. One of the blasts happened in a pile of garbage while the other one at a footpath near Banaras chowk, injuring 16 people. They were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, sources said. Enraged people took the streets and started pelting stones at moving vehicles.

The third explosion ripped through a mini truck in North Nazimabad area of Shahra-e-Noor Jehan near Sohail mosque. Five persons were injured, police sources said. However, Chhipa sources said 8 persons were taken to hospital. There are reports of the fourth blast in Hyderi area near a children’s school. Police mobiles have reached the blasts’s sites while ambulances are shifting the injured to local hospitals. The fifth blast occurred here in a motor cycle in Qasba colony area, killing one person.

A policeman was injured in the sixth blast in a bicycle in Manghopir. Two blasts also occurred in Pak colony in which 7 persons are reported injured. Police has not come up with any statement confirming the above blasts. Police and Rangers have been put on high alert in the city following the series of blasts.

How long will these murderous attacks on innocent Pakistanis continue? There can be no excuse for them. No justifications. No bahana-baazi. These terrorist acts are calculated moves to purposely spread fear and terror. These are clearly a war on Pakistan. A war on Pakistanis. A war on human decency.

Yesterday, after Islamabad’s blast we had written about a friend who survived the ghastly and cowardly attack on innocent people and had written this in an email (to Owais):

Today my belief in Allah’s power and what we call qismat(fate) was re-enforced. One of the things I learned while in overseas (i.e. to stop when a traffic police man tells me to stop) literally saved my life.I was on the other side of the road trying to make a uturn when the suicide bomber hit the policemen in Melody chowk today. If I had not stopped because a traffic policeman signaled me to stop and tell me that I cant make a U-turn, I would literally have been less the 5 feet from the suicide bomber. Luckily I stopped and being on the other side of the double road it placed a distance of around 20 feet between my car and the bomber. Somehow I was lucky enough to only have minor cuts and bruises while some really sharp pieces of metal landed inside my car and completely missed me.

It was one of the most un-nerving experience of my life since Ojhri Camp and also one of the saddest. I would really hope such events would stop in our country and as I fail to see what they achieve except for killing many innocent.

Our friend was extra lucky but for how long will Pakistanis continue to pickup ‘laashe’ of their unlucky loved ones?

This madness, brutality and violence must stop NOW !

Well “ShairNoName”; my first suspect goes to CIA+RAW+Afghan Intelligence. The reason is that during last years of soviet invasion (1986-1988) we saw many such blast from garbage which were later proved to be hand of “Afghan Intelligence”.

MQM normally uses “firing squad” from moter bykes and it is not their style but off course one can change their style.

Other Afghan government today blamed Pakistan for blast in Kabul. So it make sense that it is “retaliation” by Afghan government with blessing from “RAW” and “CIA”.

We dont know how many of our leaders and security official are on CIA payroll.

this under-cover hand is that hand that these politicians talk about is the same that feeds all these low lives so called leaders, sorry i have lived through all the operations in Karachi & 9/11 so none of these leaders & i mean none of then have the social, intellectual or moral caliber to lead us, we the people are lead like sheep’s, some one yells behind us and we move in the direction he wants us and then we’re in the pen - those who can live through those not having the ability get run over by there fellow men.

    I agree with Faraz Waseem.

Reading Peer Sahib’s Rhetoric in Jang and DAWN, it will not be far feteched to see the under-cover hand.

In Karachi these blasts have taken different dimension. First they are not suicide and I don’t think that they are done by Taliban.

They are done in mainly Pashtun area to fire a “linguistic” riots between Pashtuns and Urdu-speaking areas.

So who done it? I think they are retaliation of blast in Kabul in Indian Embassy and these blasts are done by coperation of “Afghan Intelligence” and “RAW” and their purpose is to fire “ethinic riots” in Karachi.

    @Sceptic,
Bravo for your courage. One may not have to agree with you on that but that is something almost unheard of in Pakistan.

Yes, I too miss Benazir Bhutto. The reason she–and not Nawaz Sharif or Imran Khan or many other ‘leaders’–was hunted down ever since she touched foot in Pakistan was because she would not second-guess, hesitate, appease the fundamentalist minority and would grab the bull by both horns. We should all remember the difference in the threat level faced by BB and Nawaz Sharif since Oct. 18 2007: The former was a prime target while the latter continued to hold public meetings at will. I won’t even speak of the cozy and relaxed meetings of Imran Khan. Makes you wonder, right?

PS. Thanks also the poster below who pointed out the policeman who died was also a ‘true believer’ like the ‘lucky’ one. Yes, when it works for you then it is ‘Allah’s Mercy’ and when it doesn’t then…also ‘Allah’s Will’. So where is any sense in it?

I have several email messages re my post on this subject at http://www.riazhaq.com , saying essentially that “they are all bad”, referring to the Taleban, the ISI, the military, the politicians etc. By saying that they are all bad, we are ignoring the fact that the greatest existential threat to Pakistan today comes from the Taleban/Al-Qaeda Inc., not from the ISI nor Pak military, not from incompetent/corrupt politicians, not from the US, not from India. Unless we all see this clearly and act to respond forcefully, the Taleban/Al-Qaeda will turn Pakistan into a wasteland, not unlike Afghanistan or Somalia.

    To Shiraz:
    Thanks.
I would suggest that you share your practical ideas to deal with this mayhem, here on ATP.

That way ALL OF US would benefit from them. It would also encourage others to contribute more of them.

    Dear Aslam,

    Reference your comment:

‘The government much take maximum measures to root out these killers.’

What government? The government of grand larcenists roaming freely, proudly nurturing their billion-dollar Swiss-bank accounts? Do you think they care? They live in a bubble of air-conditioned air, filtered water, and choice cuisine from the four corners of the world, surrounded by sycophants and courtesans who paint a rosy picture of their abysmal failures. People dying on the street, do you really think this government cares? It is obvious to all that these attacks are a reaction to the recent operations in the NWFP. The PM’s security was ‘beefed up’ immediately after the operation. Everybody knew there would be a backlash. Only the high and mighty can afford to ‘beef’ things up. Blood and gore and torn limbs and the most pitiful of deaths, this is the price the poor people pay to keep the rulers in their cushy chairs.
