Adil Najam

This picture was taken in Karachi earlier today (7 August, 2006) by atrophying and posted on Flickr.com.

Even if its was done inadvertently, I find it a very timely and appropriate billboard. Especially at this precarious time in India-Pakistan relations – note the silliness of recalled diplomats – when extremists on both sides seem to be succeeding in scuttling what had been a reasonably good process of rebuilding confidence.

Anyhow, my dear subcontinentals, please hold your sun-baked passions and enjoy the picture. Whether it was intended as such or not, I will take this as a neighborly greeting from one neighbor to another.

On behalf of all us Pakistanis, I thank you dear Amitabh. And I wish you, and all Indians everywhere, a wonderful Independence Day of your own on August 15.

Hi Ahsan, thank you for your comments. If you had read my post carefully, you would know that I was referring to Indian movies as being AN influence; this does not mean that alone is the reason.

Also, I’m not singling out Indian movies. People who have nothing better to do not really watch that much Pakistani Television since it does not have the sleazy material they crave. Hollywood is probably too inaccessible considering the language barrier (although you’d be surprised!!). Trashy Indian films and drama serials are by default what they resort to. This may seem like idle talk to some people, but if you calculate the number of hours that each person spends watching Star Plus dramas, you’ll come to realize the real impact

I wish you guys find better things to do with your life and time you have. Rather then bullshitting and talking about things which does not and should not be matter to any human being, you guys spend your life on. Spend time in Volunteer work, there is lot to do, to improve life in normal pakistanis.
