Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently released the university rankings of Pakistan. The rankings are generating so much interest that I am receiving four to five emails daily with people forwarding me the same link to HEC’s ranking web page. (Scroll down to see rankings and details).
I am kind of disappointed with my alma-mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, ranked at number 10 out of the 13 Engineering Universities of Pakistan. The photo to the right-below shows few views of NED University.
I genuinely and of course with a little bias think that NED university should have been ranked among the top 3. When I make such claim; I do it on the basis of sheer engineering talent I’ve personally seen at NED. But rankings do not take into account the student talent. They look at finances, faculty, number of students etc. My university mates as well as the university officials have already started the discussion on how to improve the rankings next year. This discussion is going on at many NED online alumni groups. I am sure similar discussions are going on within other university alumni too. This I think, is a positive sign of publishing a list like this as it does create competition.

Well! I strongly disagree with the ranking criteria, Well, what do u think the first field NUmber of students is reflecting??
They have even rated FAST below that Jamshoro university.
Dont you think it sounds pathetic??
Is there any logic behind it??
They should atleast have categorized the ranking under different critereas and FAST should be put under IT sector as it has just started offering Telecom engineering.
FAST has a good name due to Computer science. Whay should it be compared with other institutes offering pure engineering degrees. There should be separatrion of concern atleast.

Well! Being a student of NUST I found this ranking quite nice but I couldn’t know the logic behind this that why there is no name of NUST in the IT Ranking, while infact NIIT(NUST Institute of Information Technology) is one of the best IT institute of Pakistan with alot of research output. I am an IT student of this institute and I know the standard of education and other research based activities which are part of academic life in this institute even in the UG level while other universities lack in this field.
So, a bit dis-appointing in this regard!!!!!!!!
Thank you for starting this important dicussion I want to ask that where does PakAims stands and these days in lahore, University of Lahore(UOL) is having good ranks wht you people preffer PAKAIMS or UOL for MBA. Thank you.
Salam i msut say that it is not a completely right ranking,
it has some mistakes, and also it is not complete rankinging, because atleast 10 university including in a ranking in a specific field, for example 10 universities ranked of medical field, ok
God Bless U, Goodbye
well some of my freind suggested that the courses at niit are inferior.pec team has visited niit anad they aproaved niit,s engineering at their first visit in 24 hours with no objection. and they apreciated the courses which are offered at niit.and it was a great hounour for niit that in the history of pec engineering degree of niit was recognised so immidiately.
