Darwaish

I was watching the dramatic developments regarding Chief Justice of Pakistan’s case on GEO news today and wondering how much more we have to see after seeing police misbehaving with Chief Justice and his family.

Little did I know what was in store for me. During Kamran Khan’s show, Ansaar Abassi – investigative editor of The News, Islamabad – brought viewers attention to a shocking incident which happened during a live Voice of America ( VOA ) radio show interview (Round Table) yesterday (Listen by clicking audio symbol below)

Not surprisingly, it involves our Law Minister, Mr. Wasi Zafar. We have often read various reports about public displays of misbehaviors by Federal Minister for Law Wasi Zafar. But this is quite unbelievable.

Listen to the abusive language after the 34th minutes in particular. But also listen to the tone of the discussion of the entire interview in general. This, then, is our Federal Law Minister in action. Its worth hearing.

The Federal Minister said all this in response to a story by the investigative editor The News in which he wrote about the Law Minister’s “long arm of law.” Apparently he doesn’t know the difference between long arm and giving “a big hand.”

Listen to the clip and judge for yourself. I am just speechless!

ADDED 14 March: Here is the video clip of the report on this incident on GEO.

    Dear Abdullah Haq:
I am sorry to say but South Asia tribune was primarily a defemation campaign in which Sehbai repeatedly crossed the limits of responsible journalism and decency. It is no longer on the internet otherwise I would have provided links to some of Sa Tribune’s content to substantiate this point.
While the media has some very courageous people doing some excellent work (Abbass Ansari being one of them), it also has its share of those that the journalist community should not be very proud of.

This ATP site is totally different. While it has strongly criticised the government on this entire episode, its purpose is constructive and not defamatory.

Pervaiz sahib, I fully agree with you. Unfortunately much of the mess we are in is our own making ever since the 1950s. While reading an analysis of the first gulf war, I was struk by a comment “Saddam could not differentiate between appeasement and entrapment…” I think it is true for most leaders in the Muslim world… American reps in Islamabad are heaping praise on our strongman while congress is going the other way and Times is putting forward a single bullet theory for Musharaf. There are possibilities of serious misreading in Islamabad.
The question is how to get out of the mess? Musharaf is sinking himself and the country in a multi-dimensional chaos. It will be good if he steps down under a new plan being circulated in Wahsington (I posted the link on a different thread on this blog) or else face a new “Operation Wheeljam.” some parties are itching to launch.
    God help us all…

  3. Abdullah Haq says:

your website reminds me of another website called “satribune” (South Asian Tribune). Unlike yours, that site was constructed as a revenge by Shaheen Sehbaai, ultimately the agencies got it shut by “convincing” the founder.
Your site is also going towards free speech and true coverage. I hope that you will resist the pressure.

  4. Pervaiz Munir Alvi says:

Anwar: “Musharraf thinks Pakistan has an image problem. I finally agree.”

Much of our image problems are of our own making. Case in point being this ignorant buffoon of law minister. The rest of our image problems are because of the relentless anti Pakistan propaganda by a certain neighboring country and by those who are threatened by the very idea of a powerful Islamic country in the world. If you disagree with me then name which Muslim country has been allowed to emerge as an economic and military world power in the last one century.

    Shame, shame, shame
