Just read The News ..online edition…. that the 2 “code Pink” activists who had come to Pakistan to protest have been ordered to leave Pak, by tuesday….these code pink(they wear pink clothing) activists(mostly women, initially atleast) pop up at all sorts of press conferences and media sessions in the USA protesting against the iraq war, bush, war funding, protest marches etc.etc. they always wear pink as they say that is the feminine colour and represents activism against oppression…good people, helpless people with noble ideas. They are always picked up and quite forceably thrown out of every event…..now being thrown out of pakistan…..could this picture draw better similarities….good donkey, helpless donkey, noble animal, But unable to protest…???
Notes of the photographer say this donkey was painted such to celebrate some Sikh festival at Panja Sahib, Hasan Abdal. I cannot confirm if it was indeed a celebratory paintning or not. To me it looks cruel. I was more shocked than awed after seeing this photo the first time and therefore decided to share here. I’ve seen some color decorations on sacrificial animal around Eid-ul-Azha but this donkey looks like got immersed in a bath tub full of pink dye.
While All Things Pakistan has remained alive and online, it has been dormant since June 11, 2011 - when, on the blog's 5th anniversary, we decided that it was time to move on. We have been heartened by your messages and the fact that a steady traffic has continued to enjoy the archived content on ATP.
While the blog itself will remain dormant, we are now beginning to add occasional (but infrequent) new material by the original authors of the blog, mostly to archive what they may now publish elsewhere. We will also be updating older posts to make sure that new readers who stumble onto this site still find it useful.
We hope you will continue to find ATP a useful venue to reflect upon and express your Pakistaniat. - Editors
I may never be able to wear my Pink Golf shirt again…..
