Adil Najam

Our repost of our ATP Mushaira post on Anwar Masood prompted reader Shahran Asim to send us this newer audio recording of Anwar Masood commenting on elections in Pakistan. I thought it was not only hilarious but also pertinent; and certainly worth sharing. Thanks, Shahran.

My favorites here is how he starts just with “theek hai!” and the following (especially his use of “burpa” here):

Taraqee iss qadr burpa hoee hai
kissi soorat koi ghatta nahiN hai
bass itni si paraishani hai Anwar
election sarr pe hai atta nahiN hai

Take a listen. Enjoy.

  1. Ali Gilani says:

He’s undoubtedly the best poet alive! May Allah bless him with Umar-e-Khizri! I just love him and want him around! Always!

I saw an interview of his once! Naeem bujhari asked him about the time whe he was poor! All he said was:

“Maine kahin parha ke Ghalib ko aam bohat pasand thay, phir kahin parha ke Iqbal ko bhi aam bohat pasand thay! To socha ke main bhi shayar hun mujhe kyun nahi pasand! To usdin sabit hua ke maine kabhi aam chakha hi nahi kyunke aam to mehnga phal hai!

    Khuda Nigehban!
