I usually do not hold politicians in much esteem. But I have found new found respect for a number of them in this video. Specially because the journalist who was trying to be ever so clever comes out looking quite the monkey. He wanted a Bandar ka Tamasha, and he comes out looking like the biggest Bandar himself.
What’s the big point about speaking ‘correct’ English – especially in a country where most people (and certainly most journalists) cannot even speak correct Urdu! Beyond signifying the chooti zehniyat and linguistic insecurity of the journalist himself, the clip only serves to make one respect the ones who refused to answer in English.
If you are going to make a big deal about speaking correct English, maybe you should start by asking your own (rehearsed) question in correct English.
If this was the journalist’s attempt at being funny, the joke is on him… and what a bhounDa joke it is!
Dear Adil,
Why do we move our eye off the ball? This is not about the “Requirement” of speaking English, its about the “Ability”, or the lack of it, of speaking English..
We send this gentlemen and ladies off to the legislative assemblies, and they then cast their votes making laws and recommendations as part of our daily life and our national future outcome. We expect them to be educated enough to be “able” to speak a language which is very much part of our daily business.
Just think how weak they may look when they go to Foreign countries or negotiate with global organizations, desperately trying to put two sentences together and sweating with despression while trying to do that.
Remember PM Gillani going to White house and suggesting that “Pakistan has a few hand-picked terrorists left now” instead of saying handful… Remember how Mr. Bush winked to the Cameras after that ??? Now how idiot would Pakistan look like if sub-human creature like this continue to represent us ?
Not happening!
Come on… I have a masters degree and even I can’t speak English fluently… This is an excellent example of media using its power negatively..
Well this is absurd. The interviwere is extremely dumb, making fun of himself in front of the world
The journalist/ interviewer can’t speak proper English himself and he is making fun of others for not being able to speak the language!
English is not our mother tongue and speaking English isn’t a criteria for judging someone’s level of intelligence. And putting the fake laughter track in the background doesn’t make it funny. It shows the level of journalism in Pakistan…basically they like to have “bandar ka tamashas.”
The biggest story in the press is Veena Malik these days…it is just about gossiping and tamasha and nothing to do with the real issues facing our country that need more attention then Veena Malik’s behavior or the way she dressed.
This clip is on internet for almost an year now and Tamashbeen is making a TAMASHA out of it NOW only because of his well established hatred for Pakistani Media. Had it been a clip from any non-Pakistani channel, he would have laughed it off.
Seriously, If Indian media exposes the incapacity of their politicians to run the country, we enjoy it as some hilarious clips. The Clips of Lalu Parshad Yadev in parliament is one example. Similarly, the clips secretly recorded to expose the bribery and corruption of Indian politicians are termed as brave investigative journalism. There are numerous clips on Youtube making fun of the politicians not only in South Asian region but over the whole world.
A French Lady minister was continuously made fun of after she mis-spelled ‘inflation’ for a sexual word. Almost daily, we learn that some hollywood actor or actress, mad at some paparazzi slaps or punches him in public, and the photographer make a scene out of it although being clearly on fault themselves.
But Tamashbeen is angry at the Pakistani media when it exposes the so called ‘leaders’ and their incapacity to understand or speak simple and plain English with a critical message to the masses about their previous selection and a question on their future elections.
One thing Tamashbeen and his fellow Uncles Sam neither admit nor wish to discuss that Pakistan is a much younger country than USA and UK. Expecting Pakistani people to follow the western style democracy after 1000 years of monarchy and 200 years of Sikh and British raj is simple foolishness specially when 33 out of 63 years of independence were military rule and and the most of the remaining years saw struggle among politically illiterate leaders of parties laden with secular elite and feudal lords.
Its only with the clips of these kinds that the general masses will come to know about the dumb politicians they elected and whom they bestow their trust on in the hope of solving local and national problem.
Tamshbeen is furious at the Tamasha of incapacitated politicians. So the helpless rather squashed masses of Pakistan rightfully ask Tamshbeen: “Are you with us or against us?”
But they will be surprised to learn that Tamshbeen himself is living in a society where 1st amendment allows for freedom of speech and expression but he wasted no opportunity to criticise new born Pakistan media for exposing the truth.
Looks like the secular tamshbeen elite has not yet forgotten or forgiven the role Pakistani Media played in exposing their tyrant King Musharraf and his extra judicial and unconstitutional actions causing the fall of his party and hence of his own throne.
