I saw this picture and wondered how petrol prices in Pakistan compare to what they are in rest of the world.

As I searched for an answer I realized that (a) ATP had done a post on the same question back in 2006 and (b) it was not very easy to find information on how petrol prices in different parts of the world compare.

So, I thought maybe I should ask readers what the prices of petrol are where they are. Are we in Pakistan paying too much, or too little, for petrol – in real terms and also in comparative cost of living terms? Odd as it may seem, while petrol prices are higher, they may still be cheaper in comparison to rise in world prices than many other places. But I need more data on this before I figure that out. Any answers?

Very interesting comments. Thank you fo rteh post.
What I find most interesting is how in general people in Pakistan as well as abroad are missing the point of macroeconomics.
In Pakistan people do not realize that this is a world commodity so cost in Pakistan has to depend on world prices (not just on what people can afford). If we fight that we will only force government to make it up elsewhere. And abroad, people are not really realizing the point about buying power and ability to pay.
Tough situation for Pakistan. This post and discussion really brings home the real challenges of the economy.

In Delhi it is Rs.58 per litre ($=Rs.44.20) or $1.31 per litre. It can go up by Rs.3 from 15/05/2011.

Here in kuwait its around 20 Rs. But as Expat said, not fair to compare with Pakistan. Kuwait is 5th largest oil producer. Reading all the comments above i must say, oil in Pakistan relatively cheap…..
