Lately no news coming out of Pakistan seem to be good news. This afternoon I started writing about Benazir’s return in lighter words focusing on hilarious statements coming out of our politicians on her return and then this horrific news of scores of people dead started coming in. My lighter mood vanished totally and now I am left wihout words and more questions like, Why? Who? what now? etc.

The headline news on CNN reads as follows right now:

An explosion near the motorcade of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killed at least 110 people and injured 200 more, officials say. Bhutto, returning after years in exile, reportedly was unhurt.

While we are glad that she remained safe, our sincere prayers are with those innocents who lost their lives.

I salute Mr.Salman Iqbal CEO ARY and his team for the way they paid their final respects to the ARY cameraman Mr. Arif Khan, who lost his life in the bomb blast, while covering Ms. Bhutto’s return to Pakistan. The CEO gave “kandha” to his janaza, a documentary is being aired acknowledging Mr. Arif Khan’s contribution in the Media World. Most of all I salute Mr. Salman Iqbal and Directors of ARY for having pledged to support the photographers family.

Sadly no politicians who were traveling with Ms. Bhutto on the float bothered to visit the hospital to provide any kind of support to their injured and dying party supporters. I wish politicians would learn something from the above example.

I gave up hopes of any improvement in the state of Pakistani society many years ago. What one can expect after seeing all the hatred spread by so called guardians of religion , survivors of old feudal system and by people without ay conscience, who will not hesitate to play with innocent lives for their own good. This society needs a major catharsis and that still has to come. One can not treat gangrene by putting bandaids, it has to be resected.

I don’t know if this has been discussed before….and ill save my speeches of frustration of helplessness and disgust for what is happening to our beloved country, I as we all are sharing them these days (i guess the only thing we are sharing as a nation) … However Isn’t is an amazing coincidence that the bomb only happened after 11 hours of the rally, it happened only after they had cleared the air force and the naval areas and the height of coincidence that BB went down stairs in her bullet (and bomb) proof truck just moments before the attack. No this is not me writing a conspiracy these are just question or incidents that are happening all to often where these so called leaders are shining as Hero (of fools i.e. us) with even a tiny little scar.

I don’t know how to conclude should I be optimistic and hope for the best…..should I be sad because more people have died maybe some of them were the only bread earners (paid to be at the rally) and what will have to their families….and the fact there is no end to this killing….or should I be thinking like most of the youth and worry about how get foreign passport and get out of here….at this point however the words of Mr. Cowasjee and many others haunt me that Pakistan will soon disintegrate….

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Simon here. The discussion on this page borders on the childish and peurile. If we can’t condemn a heinous act unreservedly, regardless of our politics, and are caught up instead on bickering and who said what and random conspiracy theories, it’s time for wellwishers of Pakistan to find another cause.

Raza, that was uncalled for, and you are right in getting that taken off. However when my two comments, which merely tried to discuss the “Why?” of this tragedy, are removed, I sure can question the judgment of whoever is moderating the site. That said, you guys are doing a great job, and I like many others are all praise for it. Thanks

Temporal: Your questions are valid !

AUK: Sir/Madam - I do not moderate the comments here but when some reader left a comment that was graphic in nature - playing up the obsession with a woman’s anatomy, I requested Owais to delete that - what would this comments thread look: a place where people respond to a national tragedy by discussing #$%ts.

    Raza, Owais
Are you now becoming part of the establishment too, by blocking comments that don’t seem to state the obvious, and that try not to look at this incident as an isolated incident, but part of a big picture? If we can’t have an open discussion here then where.

If the idea here is to only send condolence messages to the bereaved families, then please do send mine too.
