Owais Mughal

Lately no news coming out of Pakistan seem to be good news. This afternoon I started writing about Benazir’s return in lighter words focusing on hilarious statements coming out of our politicians on her return and then this horrific news of scores of people dead started coming in. My lighter mood vanished totally and now I am left wihout words and more questions like, Why? Who? what now? etc.

The headline news on CNN reads as follows right now:

An explosion near the motorcade of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killed at least 110 people and injured 200 more, officials say. Bhutto, returning after years in exile, reportedly was unhurt.

While we are glad that she remained safe, our sincere prayers are with those innocents who lost their lives.

I am heartened to read that several here have identified the real issues here and they relate to ‘ghareeb’ hapless awaam that had come to walk with BB’s truck

If we believe in freedom of political activity and association, then we must respect and uphold the right of a political party to hold rallies and express its support for their leader even if some of us hate her.

Please have a heart and accept the fact that we have a wave of militancy that is ATTACKING innocent lives. This is neither allowed by the law, nor the religion or humanist principles.

    Salaam and peace!

@Akif: If you read today’s papers… Benazir clearly condemned IB(Intelligence Beau rue) for the attack rather Baitullah Mehsood or other Talibans. Even Mehsood’s statement came in papers that he didn’t give any such statement.

Even B.B again didn’t blame Talibans or Mehsud in her recent press conference and she clearly said she knew who wanted to kill her. Definitely she’s blaming agencies again this why Musharraf had to call B.B and requested her not to blame Army or agency people. A taliban spokes man made a statement before BiBI’s press conference that Talibans are not behind such attacks. Following is the excerpt of BiBi’s press conference:

Street lights turned off, BiBi went inside and then a big bang!! something is really fishy here.

Akif, keep yourself updated all the time otherwise your statement(s) could become reason of embarrassment on public forums.

Never ceases to amaze me how many amongst us would concoct and put their faith in conspiracy theories before they consider the obvious. Here we have a situation where two days before an event, a certain group issues a threat of a suicide attack at the time of Benazir’s arrival, a group that is known to carry out such attacks all the time, a group that regularly beheads any opposition and even our soldiers, a group that bombs tailoring shops, barber shops and music shops almost every week. But why listen to that ! Immediately, theories start floating as to the involvements of ISI, the administration or even PPP itself by some. It’s exactly the same thing as the 9/11 attacks. Everyone else but the party who claims to have carried out the outrage is guilty in our corner of the world.

Why is that, one may ask ? Let me suggest the obvious without too much beating about the bush. It’s because despite all the evidence to the contrary, most of us are unwilling to admit that the Islamic world has a problem…..that Islam of today is not a religion of peace……that these Islamic fundamentalists are incapable of co-existense with people of differing opinion, let alone non-muslims…….that their fight is not one for justice and equality but one of fatalistic, mutual destruction. American and Nato and Pakistani military can bomb them all they want, they will only be brought into the mainstream when we the muslims stop defending them at every juncture, of portraying them as victims and asking for an inquiry into the “root-causes”.

To me, what happened yesterday was the same that happened to Zille-Huma Usman, just on a larger scale.

May Allah ta’ala destroy the extremists who were behind this for tarnishing the name of Islam and the memory of the Beloved Muhammad sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam!!!

The people of Pakistan need to recognize terrorism as a reality and support the govt and security forces in their efforts. Its either the terrorists or you.

Let’s get this straight…we should not indulge in open political activities (are we free at any level?) because terr0rists can attack?…and if terr0rists do attack, that would be our fault and not theirs for blowing us up? We might as well handover everything we have to terr0rists, as mentally we have given up already to them. Is this the mindset of free people…who will give up freedom without even a fight?
