Credits for photos belong to Pervaiz Munir Alvi saheb. He took the photos on his recent trip to Pakistan and graciously shared them with me. The location is the Grand Trunk (now called highway N5) in Punjab.

While we have discussed Declaration of Emergency, Chronology of a Meltdown, mis-treatment of Imran Khan in recent past, one topic that got missed is what’s Benazir Bhutto up to these days? We would like to hear from our readers. Today, on my drive back from office, I was listening to Imran Khan’s interview on National Public Radio (NPR). On a question of joining forces with Benazir, Imran Khan replied:

“We would love to join Benazir, except we don’t know whose side she is on today….There is a big mistrust of each other among opposition parties these days”.

I agree. What do you think? Above photos are in no way ATP’s endorsement to Benazir. They simply reflect a glimpse of our society. In addition to that, I personally enjoyed reading the slogan: “faisla zameer da….”

I think there seems to be an agreement as to what Benazir is upto , but I think we need to aks oursleves what are we ( people of Pakistan upto , atleast those who do decide to run should be put to the task and ask if they would ” uphold the constitution Like Musharaf Does ” ( excuse my language Up his ) or they will abide by their oath. We cant stop people from running but may be we can try and hold them accountable, I fear PPP is dodging the question and it should be clear that the restoration of Rule of law is paramount.
Let us ASK every public figure that decides to run in the election as to repeat their Oath and what is going to be their position in future If Musharraf or Kiyani ” decides to put the constitution in Abeyance —– ( abeyance means up yours in Pakistan)

    Imran said,

This woman will do any thing to get back the POWER

Imran has got experience of dealing with alot of women so I think he is right, she could do everything, Mush is a lucky guy cuz power belongs to Mush and all she wants is POWER.

“If Benazir joins us in boycotting the elections, then polls have no credibility. But there’s a lot of suspicion here. What we don’t want is for her to use us as a bargaining chip and then cut another separate deal for herself with Musharraf.”

This is what Imran Khan said to Ron Moreau (Newsweek) in his interview.

This woman will do any thing to get back the POWER.

let me see what is BB upto, well for one besides riding on the coatail of her FATHER’s legacy which in my opinion was not very illustrious to begin with, she is planning to come back as the next PM representing a PARTY which has no remanence of democracy what so ever none zero. & making sure that this time she pushes the country over the edge by completely looting it dry & in process also accomodating all her croonies who want a piece too.

the story line missing in all of this broohaha is the fact that how a discredited person is being welcomed back into the political fray, whose political legacy is riddled with worst kind of human rights violations & massive corruption.

i think bcz collective amnesia of pakistanis is so severe in nature, they deserve it & all of it!!

for a long time I used to read vote in Urdu as vavat. It was confusing in childhood.

I can’t help myself but every time I see how US elections build up in 4 years, I start comparing it with our farce. We only have like what? 45 days for these guys to come up with campaigning when they haven’t even decided to even run or not. I must admit that mush has done a terrific job of keeping them busy with themselves.

Since the govt is not letting anyone carry out rallies and jalsas yet, it’s hard for everyone to actually assess their street power. sure there’re lawyers, students, NGOs but how many? It actually turns in favor of N-league, JI and other opp parties since they’re right when they complain about not getting chances to campaign but it is harder for BB to say the same. She remained free all the time. She couldn’t gather much ppl after the Oct 18th attack. Since then, she has outpaced the kangaroo, Fazl-ur-rehman in his own game of changing stances and sides. Corrupt souls, they’ll resort to anything just to be in power.

The so called moderates, lawyers, the “civil” society are letting her highjack the whole thing only to screw it more. Wake up… ppl. The democratic rulers did nothing but looted and plundered.

Aisi democracy ka achar dalna hai?

The following is strictly my personal opinion.

Without doubt Benazir is a big crowd puller - one who has great appeal for significant sections of the Pakistani masses. As a politician, she speaks extremely well and, like her father, has tremendous talent for acting. She seems to be politically quite shrewd and has been making all the right noises to enhance her seductive appeal to the West. She craves being on the center stage, in the limelight, hobnobbing with the elite amongst the world leaders. Needless to say that can only come with being the head of state in Pakistan. Oh what would she not give in order to be in that spot.

Beyond that if she does have any actual talent to be the leader that Pakistan needs, I have not seen it.

What is she up to these days, you ask? Why, she is up to what she has always been up to. Manouvering, squirming, wriggling, now being the great accomodater willing to work with the powers that be to save the country, now the champion of people thirsting and agitiating for freedom and dignity, now the foremost spokesperson and wannabe leader of the opposition, now back to being the accomodator, you name it she is it.

God, she is as counterfiet as they come. To be fair to her, though, she isn’t the only one in Pakistan.
