Credits for photos belong to Pervaiz Munir Alvi saheb. He took the photos on his recent trip to Pakistan and graciously shared them with me. The location is the Grand Trunk (now called highway N5) in Punjab.

While we have discussed Declaration of Emergency, Chronology of a Meltdown, mis-treatment of Imran Khan in recent past, one topic that got missed is what’s Benazir Bhutto up to these days? We would like to hear from our readers. Today, on my drive back from office, I was listening to Imran Khan’s interview on National Public Radio (NPR). On a question of joining forces with Benazir, Imran Khan replied:

“We would love to join Benazir, except we don’t know whose side she is on today….There is a big mistrust of each other among opposition parties these days”.

I agree. What do you think? Above photos are in no way ATP’s endorsement to Benazir. They simply reflect a glimpse of our society. In addition to that, I personally enjoyed reading the slogan: “faisla zameer da….”

    Rafay Kashmiri,

Nothing better could be said than what you have said but the question is “the Raj, the Ray Bahadurs, The Newabs, The Khanzadays, The Mirs will they always keep us colonized, or will the Tipus amogst us ever rise, or rise and martyred,or are there no Tipus, I dont understand if our ancestors before the advent of Bristish had any shame , because after being colonized doesn’t look it has been passed into our blood…

    Sher Bano,

I agree with you.We are very impatient as a nation don’t want to give democracy time to take root.I am amazed at educated people here advocating dictatorship.
I don’t think we will ever be able to separate masjid and state. But in a free and fair election people will always reject the
    militant mullah.

    As far BB is concerned

Ham ko unsay wafa ki hai ummeed
Jo NaheiN jante wafa kya hai (Ghalib)

All I am hearing laterly BB can do this, BB can do great, BB can do wonders, BB is the savior and BB has whole Pakistan behind her. This pretty much gave me an impression that the election has been taken out of the public domain and pre-define the winner of forth coming elections. “WAG the Dog” .. does it ring a bell!!!
My belief is that we are about to choose another evil in next elections as I have no good hopes from the current brass of politicians. It’s just a matter of choosing a lesser evil. Without any doubt Benazir doesn’t top that list (lesser evil)
She is clever in a way that she come, she rules, she loots and she walks away. The others are “dheet” they stay, they loot and hope for more like a dog in front of butcher’s shop
    GOD BLESS PAKISTAN!!!

    Breaking news:

Mian Sahab is coming back, the House of Saud has finally chose to dump the khaki kings of Pakistan in favour of the Pakistani people.

He is not without fault but democracy even with NS and Bibi is far better than dictatorship by Mush.

In an ideal world, Musharraf would voluntarily step down, the judiciary would be restored, the media unshackled, free elections would be held, Imran Khan would become Prime Minister, Aitzaz Ahsan would become President, and Pakistan would be on its way.

Alas, an ideal world this is not, so we have to find less worse alternatives. I would take an alliance between Benazir and Imran any day over the current state of affairs.

Both, The British High, and Deputy Commissioners met
Benazir at Bilawal House, it is shameful, these encounters
between Colonials and colonised, what mentality ? asking
and begging their “rescue ” remindes us of Raj, the Ray
Bahadurs, The Newabs, The Khanzadays, The Mirs,
The Diwan Sahebs, courting one by one in Raj’s Hazoor
denouncing each others and get thousands of Murrabas
of land as recompensation and “Ina’am ” submitting
their “Khidmaat ” still practiced today !! shameful

Comparing the Pakistani election process to that in the U.S. is like comparing alloo and tamatar. We repeatedly do so in blogs and discussions. Why? We forget the American democracy evolved over about two hundred years, under conditions that were guarded consistently to ensure the development of a democratic society. For example: the separation of religion and state and freedom for any individual to practice whatever religion they choose. This can only be achieved by rule of law. Pakistani political system on the contrary has not allowed a single elected civilian leader to complete the full term in office. Corruption has always been the valid reason to justify and accept an illegal action, vis-à-vis, the ouster of elected governments. So in this regard who seems to have more of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Americans or us, the Pakistanis?
In my opinion, leaders are human therefore fallible, no matter what their status or stature. The exceptional ones may earn respect, but as humans no leader is worthy of worship (the way we deify them in the Subcontinent). Rather than wasting more time and energy on what BB or any politician including Musharraf is up to, for they have established their track with their actions, we need to find ways to get more people out on the street to establish a unified voice. That is what the entire world is watching Pakistan for. Democracy by nature is a process where someone is monitoring the leaders and keeping them in line. It is the people who do it best.

Bibi has sold out so far and her cronies in the Pervez People’s Party are complicit in this war crime against the nation. How can anyone EVEN CONSIDER taking parts in elections without a constitution and its worse from the PPP as the 1973 constitution was one of the great achievements of its founder.

I stand by every word I wrote before her arrival in my post titled ‘Welcome Home Benazir Zardari’ and it can be seen via the link here (scroll down for it) http://www.otherpakistan.org/archive.html
