I recently found this wrinkled photo in my collection. It is Pakistan’s Under-19 Cricket Team which toured Sri Lanka in either 1975-75 or 76-77. I know most of the people in this photo but not all. Some of the players here later played for Pakistan’s national team also. I thought it will be a good quiz if we try to guess who is who in this photo. There are cricketers, as well as organisers and politcal figures in this photo.

    I think,
First row has Begum Rana Liaqat Ali Khan, Javed Miandad, Mudassar Nazar (was vice captain so assume he was in the first row).
3rd Row- Sikandar Bakht, Qasim Umar

I wonder if an U-19 team in mid 70s could be complete without Shafiq Papa and Haroon Rashid. As there are only nine players in this picture, it will be interesting to know the complete line-up to see how many from this tour ended up playing for the national team.

    My guess:

It is Mansoor Akhtar to the left of Miandad.
Sikandar Bakht is the first in the last row.
Second in the second row (not showing his teeth) is Mudassar Nazar.

Here is one more: is it Mushtaq Mohammad behind Miandad?

I think Shoiab Malik is in the middle of the photo

Saad Zahur Saheb, you are right about Rashid Israr, except he is 2nd from the right in 2nd row. The one with little bit of teeth showing. Rashid later played a lot of first class cricket for PIA. His teeth got him in trouble a lot against fast bowlers. Many fast bowlers thought he was smiling at them while he would be very serious. Fast bowlers expect respect from batsmen so Rashid used to get lots of bouncers for no fault of his.

In 1980 I remember listening to PIA vs Lahore Wills Cup final commentary on radio. Imran Khan captaining Lahore was at his peak that year. PIA won against LCCA but Imran had Rashid Israr bowled first ball he faced. Just a random thought.

The clearly recognisable individuals are of course Javed Miandad, Qasim Umer and Mrs. Raa’na Liaqat.

However, could the person in the centre of the back row be Abdul Raqib, the slow left armer? And the guy in row 2 with long hair, 2nd from left; could he be Rashid Israr (or his brother Shahid Israr)?? Just guesses, but there is definitely no Sikandar Bakht here….
