Not the best rendition of Waris Shah’s Heer that I have ever heard. But one of the most captivating nonetheless!
The singer is one, Anita Lerche, from Denmark, who has found a niche market in singing Punjabi songs – mostly for Punjabi Indian audiences – in her Danish accent.
I suspect Punjabi Pakistani audiences will also find her entertaining for the same novelty value.

What a lovely surprise — a Danish artist embracing Waris Shah’s Heer with this much heart is exactly the kind of cross-cultural gem that deserves more attention. I went looking for her performance clips afterward, and the concert videos are gorgeous but enormous; I had to Compress Video before I could pass them around to friends without choking their inboxes. Voices like hers travel further when the files are easy to share. Thanks for putting her on my radar!
