The worst thing happened in all these years of Musharraf’s regime is this visible division of our nation into the liberal and religious extremes, which of course is the root cause of all these complications. The last evening’s blast in Islambad can be an effort on part of the regime to sabotage the flow of the Chief Justices’ campaign with a dual purpose of accumulating the peoples’ sympathies for a possible ally in PPP for the upcoming elections especially when the latter has openly supported government’s stance regarding the opeation at the Lal Masjid.
I dont think the conditions will get better ever again, I’m totally hopeless. Musharaf is 100% responsible for everything thats happening in Pakistan today.
Whenever and wherever the US has “intervened” there has been chaos. I would like to remind readers that we were living peacefully with these tribes for the last 60 years or so. But why have the relations worsened now?
I still don’t get it why Mushi had to go through all this trouble just to get reelected. I would have voted for him because other candidates are just morons. Our country progressed well on his watch.
There is a syndrome known as “illusion of invulnerability” that affects every leader, I believe Mushi is its victim.
While All Things Pakistan has remained alive and online, it has been dormant since June 11, 2011 - when, on the blog's 5th anniversary, we decided that it was time to move on. We have been heartened by your messages and the fact that a steady traffic has continued to enjoy the archived content on ATP.
While the blog itself will remain dormant, we are now beginning to add occasional (but infrequent) new material by the original authors of the blog, mostly to archive what they may now publish elsewhere. We will also be updating older posts to make sure that new readers who stumble onto this site still find it useful.
We hope you will continue to find ATP a useful venue to reflect upon and express your Pakistaniat. - Editors

Speaking of the legitimacy of a military vs. a democratic government to tackle this issue, there is an incisive article about Lal Masjid and Musharraf’s government in this week’s New Yorker Magazine here: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/07/23/0707 23fa_fact_dalrymple
