Adil Najam
I had convinced myself that I will give the fake degree issue a little break on these pages. But the honorable Chief Minister of Baluchistan, Mr. Aslam Raisani just won’t let me.
This statement from him, made to journalists covering the Baluchistan Assembly session, needs little explanation, but is worth hearing.
“Mera mohqaf saaf hai. Degree, degree hota hai. Woh asli ho ya jaali ho.”“My position is clear. A degree is a degree. Whether it is real or fake.”
But much more revealing that this statement, is the second part of the video. When asked whether it will effect the government if fake degree holders were removed, the Mr. Raisani goes into a rehearsed statement about how he will not let anyone use our land to launch attacks on any ‘humsaiya mulk’ (neighboring country). I am not sure if I understand the logic here. Nor am I sure that he does!
Problem is not that MNA’s MPA’s have a degree or not or they are graduate or just a middle pass, the real problem is that our elected people are making false statement and making the nation fool by submitting fake degrees. This is sheer injustice and our President and Prime Ministers are defending the buch of these farud people by giving the statement in press. What the hell Jamshed Dasti & Fake Degree Company can give to Pakistan just a bad name and reputation all over the world….
Hard to say anything “piyar say” about this one. Hard to know whether to laugh or cry.
It is simpler to understand “fake degrees”.
The issue before the court was not (and I am not 100% sure since I have not read the petition and the judgement and it is what I should expect) that someone has a fake degree.
The issue should be if someone lied on the form with a certification of veracity. That is the real problem. You just cannot lie on the form.
And this information can be on any issue; assets, criminal records, etc.
What Adil did not say, and I hope that is what he means by “Watergate”, that there almost all of them with lies on their forms. And as such, my best guess is that 99.99% of them are subject to removal.
A lie on a oath form is a lie.
As to the need for the degree to parliament, etc. I think it cuts both ways. Any nation is entitled to set it’s own requirements. Frankly, in case of Pakistan, it matters the least. Both can be ignorants. Got enough youtube clips to prove it too.
BTW, no two nation has the same form of democratic form of government, even if they declare it to be presidential, parliamentary or another. And the two nations that almost have a similar constitution produced vastly different results; US and Liberia.
So, merely by declaring democracy, it does not mean it. It is the people who run it ultimately matter.
As it continues to be evident, with each blog, each post, it is the educated of Pakistan who are the most ignorant. Pakistanis continue to blame it on everything else except the educated of Pakistan. Wrongly.
I have a simple rule, if you are a Pakistani and can read or write this, you (and myself) are part of the problem.
For one Real, there can be many Fakes. For a single GOD there are innumerable FAKES. In any society the fakes will always out-number the truths. Pakistan is not an exception.
There are fake degrees, fake graduates and fake parliamentarians.
There are fake promises, fake announcement and fake politicians
There are fake laws, fake judgements but fake/true judges.
In general people do not care about any fake unless it goes against their own interests.
Pakistan claims to be a Democracy with a Parliamentary System of Government. The democratic parliament is the representation of the people. Any citizen (with or without a degree) has a right to fight the parliamentary election.
The degree requirement was imposed by Musharraf and struck down by Zardari. In any case it was (and is) an unjust and a fake law.
I suspect that Dr. Adil and his friends are fighting against the fake degrees only to keep the majority of the people (without degrees) out of the parliament. They are fighting for the ruling class to whom they serve. I hope I am wrong!
For all those hard working and honest students, who sat under the street lamp to study and paid their dues, this statement is an insult.
