I myself have the same feelings for ‘Pardes’ . One should always care about personal luxuries and life. Naked Parade of heathrow and JFK and be a 3rd grade citizens are not to be considered
its a nice poem. I don’t see any malice, just a point of view. One might not agree with it but don’t see any reason to get all bent out of shape about it.
Almost all of my rights are more protected in “Pardes,” I don’t need to know the SHO in order to file a police report if I need to, I don’t have to worry about “what the neighbors will say” about anything (except for the fellow Desi neighbors in Pardes). I have no intention of moving back, I just miss the Northern Pakistan’s high mountains. Pardes does have a different set of problems but given the choice I would choose Pardes, most of the other people would probably do the same.
For those who are in their fifties, it’s a different story, they have more reasons to “go back.”
The poem was a nice poem though, I don’t know what made the Stranded commentor call it “chichori”.
Frankly, I think too much is being made of very minor things by some of the comments. Just because one poem by this poet makes a particular point, it doesn’t mean that he’s putting it forward as a declaration. Normal people feel differently at different times, so let’s just appreciate the poem and the poet and not unnecessarily juxtapose it.
Great Poem and Great Theme. Bitter Reality for those who want to live in ” Escapism’ while blaming for No Opportunities, Less Pay, Security Concerns, Respect, Corruption and other such times old ranting.Arm Chair Patriots and keyborad Saviours should light a candle instead of contantly cursing the dark in front of thier smart laptops in cozy rooms !
While All Things Pakistan has remained alive and online, it has been dormant since June 11, 2011 - when, on the blog's 5th anniversary, we decided that it was time to move on. We have been heartened by your messages and the fact that a steady traffic has continued to enjoy the archived content on ATP.
While the blog itself will remain dormant, we are now beginning to add occasional (but infrequent) new material by the original authors of the blog, mostly to archive what they may now publish elsewhere. We will also be updating older posts to make sure that new readers who stumble onto this site still find it useful.
We hope you will continue to find ATP a useful venue to reflect upon and express your Pakistaniat. - Editors

I think the poem is quite good.
