KARACHI: A doctor has been arrested on charges of blasphemy in Hyderabad, police said on Sunday. Naushad Valiyani was detained on Friday following a complaint by a medical representative who visited the doctor in the city of Hyderabad. “The arrest was made after the complainant told the police that Valiyani threw his business card, which had his full name, Muhammad Faizan, in a dustbin during a visit to his clinic,” regional police chief Mushtaq Shah told AFP. “Faizan accused Valiyani of committing blasphemy and asked police to register a case against the doctor.”
Shah said the issue had been resolved after Valiyani, a member of the Ismaili community apologised but local religious leaders intervened and pressed for action. “Valiyani had assured Faizan that he did not mean to insult the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) by throwing the visiting card in the dustbin,” Shah said, adding that the police had registered a case under the Blasphemy Act.
Please tell me, who is insulting the Prophet (PBUH) in this case (as in so many others)? Who is the real “threat” to the “Namoos-e-Rasool“?
Using the Prophet’s name in vain and for spreading personal and petty hatred is itself an insult to the Prophet’s (PBUH) message and person. Anyone who cares for “Namoos-e-Rasool” should feel insulted and incensed at how this “namoos” is being ridiculed by the purveyors of hate in the name of blasphemy.
Maybe we should have a law against parents naming their children ‘Muhammad’. Let me confess I have two children whose middle name is ‘Muhammad’ and I sometimes do end up shouting at them or chiding them for not doing their homework. Does this, now, also count as blasphemy?
For Allah’s sake, give me a break. Please! If not me, at least give the Prophet (PBUH) a break!
P.S. For those unable to read Urdu, the verse at the top of this post is from Iftikhar Arif: “Rehmat-i-Syed-i-Lolaak pey kamil eeman / Ummat-i-Syed-i-Lolaak say khauf aata hai.” I hope readers who are better translators than me can provide a translation befitting this verse.

I wonder if the complainant has kept all the wedding invitation cards in a sacred place throughout his life as they bear “Bismillah” and so many names that start with Muhammad. What we do with these cards?
This is an atrocious behavior and utterly disgusting. There should be laws against such complainants who roam around in the society and are looking for channels to spew hatred and violence.
This is insane… Blasphemy charge is the easiest way to make people emotional and do whatever these so-called Muslims wants them to do….
Any Ismaili Muslim can not even think of insulting any prophet including Prophet Mohammad PBUH (Naoz-zubillah)!
Its a clear case of retaliation by the Medical rep who probably had grievances with the subject Doctor!
This reminds me of a very famous incident we were tought in elementary school. A kafir lady used to throw trash on Prophet (PBUH) everyday when he would pass her window. One day she did not throw the trash so prophet went over to her house to make sure she was ok. You all know the rest of the story. The point is, if our beloved Prophet (PBUH) did not care about how people perceived him, who are we to judge someone?
I receive several wedding cards every year with Bismillah, Allah and Muhammad’s name on it. It comes in postal mail. Please do not tell me that the postman opens each letter to make sure he is not commiting blasphamy. I don’t understand when some people will wake up and realize that there is much more to Islam than following prophet’s life style to the T. We do not live in the 7th century anymore. I bet if Prophet (PBUH) were alive today, he would have lived a different lifestyle then what he did 1400 years ago.
With this incident and this post in mind, I think everyone has taken Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a large lump of clay. One can easily transform the clay into absolutely any shape as per one’s desires or agenda.
Previously, it was Muhammad Ali Jinnah in a fix between fundamentalists and secularists and now the Prophet (PBUH) himself is the target. I would not be surprised if Adil Najam, in pursuance of his agenda, will declare Muhammad (PBUH) the greatest secular personality of all times.

This is the reason why it is advised that Muhammad should not be the only given name of your child. It must be preceded or followed by another given name to be used in not-so-good situations.
Anyway, its a matter of love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Someone receives immortal recognition and respect for killing an insulting author and the some other one dies in his toilet after proclaiming prophet-hood.
