Mohabbat aisa darya hai, kay barish tHehR bhi jayee
Tou paani kam nahiN hoota

I am not much of a “Valentine’s Day” celebrating type. Yet, each year I find myself writing a post on the subject. I had convinced myself that this year I would not. But, then, just an hour ago I found myself being interviewed on excatly that – Valentine Day in Pakistan – on an Urdu radio show.

Once again, I realized the futility of such discussions. My response was simple. Since when is mohabbat (love) not part of our saqafat (culture)? And if we are to build a culture not defined by mohabbat (love), then what will it be defined by? Nafrat (hate)!!

Those who do not wish to celebrate Valentines Day, should not. And those who chose to do so can do so in totally “Pakistani ways” – as so many are already doing (Valentine’s Day cards with Ghalib verses on them!). But ultimately, mohabbat (love) is a sentiment very worth celebrating.

Mohabbat Zindabaad!

I find valentine day useful in my own way :P

Wives and beloved demand and expect a regular stream of gifts. Off course, birthdays and anniversary are appropriate events for these pricey moments. But the other party needs to be pleased with gifts every other month. Fortunately for me, valentine day fills a large gap between our anniversary and my birthday (yes!!! i have to GIVE a gift on MY birthday as well).

So with a suitable gift on valentine day, I am saved from nagging of at least 6 months. :P That is the only utility of this creepy event i have found for me. Otherwise, it doesnt matter for either of us, valentine day or no valentine day.

An ex-colleague of mine was caught by his wife and her brother when he was dancing with an unknown girl in an Islamabad party last night. And surely they beat the hell out of him and the music system there and then. Then they emptied his pockets and took his mobile, wallet and car with them. Interestingly, none of the participants of the party was ready to help him even slightly after the incident, not even the girl he brought to the party and effectively, he was thrown out of the party helpless.

Bruised and pennyless, this chap had no choice but to go to nearby house of our mutual friend in F10 as he could not walk back to Bahria Town. This morning, his mother (a professor of Psychology) called in the office and asked him to remain out of her sight.

Needless to say that my wife as well as our mutual friend’s wife have strictly forbidden us from continuing friendly (more than professional) relations with the guy. Being a loving husband, I cant afford to disobey my wife. :P

By the way, It would be nice to see how Adil Najam celebrates
Mawlid un Nabi (yes, it is the correct word) on this blog??? Any “MULLAHism” suspected??? huh

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with Mr. Najam this time. We actually ARE more comfortable with nafrat than with mohabbat. Look around the country, where do we see any mohabbat for anyone?

  3. Musalman says:

Sure Waqas. I agree. Show your love EVERYDAY. But can that also please include THIS DAY. Or is day only for showing hatred?

  4. Waqas Ishaq says:

@Asim : if Muslims are bad this surely does not mean that Islam is bad, I am supporting Adan to the point that Prophet (SAW) gave us the best example of love in all forms.

and why love ur loved ones just for one day why not 365 days a year, same with father and mother’s day. Do it all year round love ur parents all year round.

and yes chill out i am not against celebrating valentine’s day or basant or any other such day as long as ur not hurting any other living being.

and just out of curiosity you said “some surats from Quran that you interpreted in your own sick ways” can you give me example of that how people do that

  5. Gilani says:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday issued a notice to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son Abdul Qadir Gilani, asking him to record his statement before the FIA team investigating the Haj scam.
Following the issuance of the notice, Director FIA Hussain Asghar has been removed. It has been learnt that PM Gilani had taken a serious note of the FIA move to send summon notices to his son.

Abdul Qadir Gilani had been asked to record his statement but he failed to appear, resulting issuance of his summons.

The FIA also issued a notice to Zain Sukhara, an advisor to the religious affairs ministry. He is reportedly a friend of the prime minister’s son.
