In the history of South Asia, 1947 was a blood-soaked year – hundreds of thousands got killed while millions were uprooted from their ancestral lands. Prior to 1947 Sikhs lived everywhere in North-Eastern area of what is today Pakistan. I hang my head in shame knowing that presently there is only a small number of Sikhs left there.

I have been a great fan of Sardars – more so after a community of them saved my life in Lusaka, the year was 1992. I got sick while traveling and sojourned at a Gurdwara (Singa Singa Mesquita). The family that took care of the temple took me to the hospital and fed me. I don’t recall their names, but I remember there was a young man who pursued a modeling career and wanted to go to the US.

(1) Sher Shah Suri, the Second is here!

The following Urdu news appears in Jang local for Faisalabad. A provincial Minister has gone so far ahead in ‘ibn-ul-waqt’ (sycophant) behavior that he is calling his boss, the CM as Sher Shah Suri ‘Sani’ (the second). Sher Shah Suri, the first and the real (1472-1545) is credited for building a large network of roads. One road ran from Attock to Cacca, second ran from Agra to Burhanpur, third from Agra to Chittor and fourth between Lahore and Multan. Present day Grand Trunk Road in Pakistan and India was also built by Sher Shah Suri.

Now it may be true that current CM is indeed building a network of roads but to call him Sher Shah Suri the second seems sycophancy to me.

Important decisions just came in on the Inzimam-Hair saga, and they seem like – for most part – victories for Pakistan.

Inzimam is cleared of ball- tampering charges but suspended for four one-day internationals for ‘bringing the game into disrepute by refusing to play (see background and discussion here). Meanwhile, controversial Australian umpire Darrell Hair who created the entire storm is not going to officiate in the forthcoming Champions Trophy.

The summary of Ranjan Mudagalle’s (ICC’s senior match referee) findings on the code of conduct hearing are:

Ball-tampering. On the first charge of ball-tampering under paragraph 2.9 of the Code, I find Mr ul-Haq not guilty. Having regard to the seriousness of the allegation of ball-tampering (it is an allegation of cheating), I am not satisfied on the balance of probabilities that there is sufficiently cogent evidence that the fielding team had taken action likely to interfere with the condition of the ball.
