Adil Najam

I thought the qataa above (from Jang, 23 November 2006) was a nice caption for this photograph printed in most newspapers on the same date. A rough translation of the qataa:

These days Karachi is a sight to see
There is an exhibition of ammunitions that is on (IDEAS 2006)
But, even if it were not, in this country of ours
Has there ever been any shortage of munitions to see

Here is an addition to this post, also from Jang (24 November, 2006):

My very rough translation:

Ammunition production makes it very evident, Shaoor
That we are living in a state of Defence
In reality these are all the instruments of war
But we insist on calling them instruments of defence

For a guy who’s usually the most refined and thoughtful one in the Musharraf team, this is apalling! What is that a machine gun in his hands?

I can see why the great Ishrat ul Ibad Khan is behind him. After all, Mr. Khan is a seasoned terrorist and masterminded quite a few bloodbaths by MQM hooligans in his day. But I shouldn’t be too hard on him; after all, his family got off of welfare not too long ago:

Reminds me of a recent ATP post….”MQM…mainstream party.”

    Ha!

its always amusing to read the thoughts of the peace and love brigade. meanwhile back in the real world:

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/328 066.cms

“WASHINGTON: India was the biggest arms buyer among developing nations in 2005, finalising arms transfer agreements worth USD 5.4 billion, according to a US Congressional study.

Saudi Arabia ranked second at USD 3.4 billion, followed by China with USD 2.8 billion in such agreements, the Congressional Research Service says…”

thankfully as this exhibition indicates our government has eyes on the ball.

If this comment is ‘indecent’ please remove. But I think offering Weapons for Peace is as offensive a slogan is like promoting Screwing for Virginity.

Shaukat Aziz should take some tips from Ishratul Ibad who is experienced in going head to head against the Khaki. I still recall the wall chalking of those days by MQM “Crush the corrupt Pakistan Army”.

Adil, the first thing that came to my mind is the ‘maula jat’ header that you put on ATP. May be its time to bring it back until this photo post remains current :)

This is a truly revolting photograph. Please note the “chamcha-giri” smiles on Omar Ayub’s and Ibad’s faces.

Poor civilian doesn’t know the consequences of carrying gun against the khakis. He is unaware of the fate of his two predecessors.
