Adil Najam

Many of you would already have seen this photograph.

It shows a policeman (of the Punjab Police, I believe) helping hang billboards showing the election symbol of ‘bicycle.’ The bicycle, by the way, is the electoral symbol of the ruling party PML(Q), whose supposed Prime Ministerial candidate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is the Chief Minister of Punjab and, therefore, the direct boss of this poor cop.

By the way, from the look of it this official van is holding lots of other billboards; most likely with the same symbol. For the uninitiated we should note that the Blue Toyota Hilux vans are the vehicle of choice for the Punjab Police. Also note the word (in Urdu) ‘Police’ at the back of the van and the green number plate. Both signifying that this is an official government vehicle. The policeman, of course, is also in official uniform - duly armed - and ‘assisting’ in what is clearly political campaigning.

My first thought had been to ask people to suggest a funny title for this… maybe something like “Police ka hai farz madad aap ki!” (It’s the Police’s duty to help you) which used to be the slogan of the police service. However, there is very little about this picture that is funny. And their is plenty that is truly disturbing.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Rashid Rauf, a British suspect in an alleged plot to blow up trans-Atlantic jetliners, escaped from police custody in Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.

Rauf escaped after appearing before a judge at a court in the capital, Islamabad, said Khalid Pervez, a city police official. Two policemen were being questioned about how Rauf had gotten away.

Federal Interior Secretary Kamal Shah said he had been informed of the escape, but said he had no details.

    Pak Army’s new found love
Now I knaow why there is a policeman in the picture not a fauji jawan doing his bid towards enlightened moderation as Pak Army has recently found a new love. Yes it is selling sheep and cattle in Karachi.

After successful intervention in various business projects Pakistan Army now ventured in to lucrative business of cattle trade on the eve of Eid-UL-Adha.

According to BBC Pakistan Army currently managing a very big animal bazaar in the outskirts of Karachi around super highway. They are making most from this venture by charging Rs 250.00 per sheep and Rs 500.00 per cattle head.

I personally believe that Pakistani Army will out perform all their competitors venture as they have experience of trading members of national and provincial assemblies like a herd of sheep. Furthermore, the way they treat civilians in Pakistan is reminiscent of the way farm owner treats his/her livestock. So their new business enterprise makes very good business sense as they have all the skills and experience in this type of trade.

Since when did speaking against an illegal and unconstitutional entity become an ‘anti-Pakistan’ act?

Lawyers and Civvies a like are very much aware of the fact that if Pakistan were to be saved, its laws and constitution must be preserved and obeyed not subverted and raped.

Whatever rigging had to be done is now already done. So whatever happens now will necessarily be rigged and anyone winning - PML(Q), PPP, MQM, MMA or PML(N) will hold no legitimacy in the eys of most Pakistanis.

BB is over and over saying just one thing if ppp does not win this will mean Elections are rigged. Now tell me her mind is already prepared for win or rigged elections. These kind of politicians we have who needs enemy.
This lady was out of country when Pakistan was hit with the earth quake, the whole world representatives came to see the destruction but she never showed up. BB has declared 3 billion dollars in her assets. Use the intelligence not ignorance when voting not.
I am so shocked that our previous Prime minster Shaukat Aziz was such a fair person no one came in streets asking him to run for elections. This is sad that people only come in streets for criminals not for honest servants of Pakistan.
Shaukat Aziz is a man who deserves some attention I wish he can be placed as PM even if it takes breaking law as Pakistan’s interest is more important.
    Allah Bless Pakistan

All of the people who think Emergency was brought in for personal interest is wrong. Doing things for the interest of Pakistan is not personal interest. From Al-qaida to enemy of Pakistan are injecting the anti Mushraf propaganda and their plans to destabilize Pakistan was hurting Pakistan. Lawyers and civilians must look for interest of Pakistan. Do not buy into anti Mushraf propaganda. Show intelligence not ignorance. Politicians are doing what politicians do so nothing new there.Law in order was needed to bring in control. And if anyone tries to destabilize Pakistan again lets have the emergency again.
    Allah Bless Pakistan
Unite for the interest of Pakistan
