Adil Najam

Can you recognize this man? No, not Nixon, the other guy. The one to the left.

I imagine that most of you can. But still, do tell me. In case you cannot, here is another picture of him.

I wanted to get us going with an easy picture on what I hope will be a somewhat regular feature of guessing who or what is in the picture. Feel free to share your thoughts on the person if you wish.

[P.S. I know, this is a sly way of checking if anyone is even reading this thing, and finding it useful enough to merit a response. But keeping this blog going is taking a lot of time, and I would like some indication from the readers that its worth the effort; that there are at least a few who are not just visiting but willing to actively engage in the discussions. Thanks.]

  1. Pakistani says:

Well, he did hold teh only fully free and democratic elections in Pakistan.

  2. HH says:

I can’t add anything more about the picture apart from that fact that i think it was taken on October 25th 1970. Mr Najam, I stumbled upon your blog after watching your Pakistan related compilation on youtube( the Faiz inspired one). I just wanted to congratulate you on a very interesting blog. Keep up the Good work!

Adil, this is very unfair. You ask us to talk about Yahya Khan and then ask us to be polite. There is really nothing ‘polite’ that any Pakistani can say about this guy. i can usually find at least something good to say about even the worst of our politicians and rules. But about this guy, I can think of nothing good to say. So, let me not say anything!

And the winner is… Suleman… who gets unlimited uninterrupted use of this website for as long as it is up ;-)

Thanks Suleman, for playing along. This IS General Yahya Khan
General Agha Muhammad Yahya Khan was born at Chakwal in February 1917.
The 5th Chief of the Army Staff and the 3rd President of the Country.

I hope others will take Suleman’s lead and add more about the picture and the person. (P.S. By way of a premptive suggestion, I know he is likely to ignite passions, but let us keep it clean and civil and rational…)

  5. Suleman says:

OK, I’m going to expose myself here and attempt this to be the State visit; when he met with President Yahya Khan
