I was watching the dramatic developments regarding Chief Justice of Pakistan’s case on GEO news today and wondering how much more we have to see after seeing police misbehaving with Chief Justice and his family.
Little did I know what was in store for me. During Kamran Khan’s show, Ansaar Abassi – investigative editor of The News, Islamabad – brought viewers attention to a shocking incident which happened during a live Voice of America ( VOA ) radio show interview (Round Table) yesterday (Listen by clicking audio symbol below)

Not surprisingly, it involves our Law Minister, Mr. Wasi Zafar. We have often read various reports about public displays of misbehaviors by Federal Minister for Law Wasi Zafar. But this is quite unbelievable.
Listen to the abusive language after the 34th minutes in particular. But also listen to the tone of the discussion of the entire interview in general. This, then, is our Federal Law Minister in action. Its worth hearing.
The Federal Minister said all this in response to a story by the investigative editor The News in which he wrote about the Law Minister’s “long arm of law.” Apparently he doesn’t know the difference between long arm and giving “a big hand.”
Listen to the clip and judge for yourself. I am just speechless!
ADDED 14 March: Here is the video clip of the report on this incident on GEO.
(Report on this in The News).

One of the clause of Article 209 of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Constitution
(5) If, on information received from the Council or from any other source, the President is of the opinion that a Judge of the Supreme Court or of a High Court,
(a) may be incapable of properly performing the duties of his office by reason of physical or mental incapacity; or
(b) may have been guilty of misconduct, the President shall direct the Council to inquire into the matter.
(6) If, after inquiring into the matter, the Council reports to the President that it is of the opinion,
(a) that the Judge is incapable of performing the duties of his office or has been guilty of misconduct, and
(b) that he should be removed from office, the President may remove the Judge from office.
(7) A Judge of the Supreme Court or of a High Court shall not be removed from office except as provided by this Article.
(8) The Council shall issue a code of conduct to be observed by Judges of the Supreme Court and of the High Courts.
IF you read clause 6 here it clearly states “If, after inquiring into the matter” not before that and clause 7 is itself self explanatory.
We are being ruled by mad people, they will go, another group of mad people will take over. This cycle will keep on repeating like it has been for the last 60 years.
Who is suffering?? our country
What do we need at this stage??? stability in our country.
So its better to let this present set up run the affairs in the best of national interest. I am sure, people sitting in the opposition are not a bit less than the ones in power nowadays.
Thanks for posting the video of the GEO program. So I just re-heard the full VOA interview, read the News report and also saw teh GEO report. Here is my assessment:
1. This guy is certainly not fit to be a Minister, or anything else. Those who wonder why we have a bad image, here is why.
2. But the News reporter may also have over-reacted. Wasi Zafar’s tone is obnoxious, but he was certainly not being abusive to the journalist in a classical sense.
Some of the adventures of honorouble Wasi Zafar?

PM asks Wasi Zafar to keep his cool
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has asked Law Minister Wasi Zafar to keep his cool after noting his aggression and misbehaviour. Sources said on Wednesday that Shaukat Aziz had invited Wasi Zafar to a lunch hosted in honour of visiting Azeri President Ilham Aliyev when all of a sudden the law minister was seen being escorted by two security guards through one of the doors of Prime Minister’s House. Both security guards caught hold of the law minister by his arms, sources said, adding that the PM’s deputy military secretary rushed to the scene and escorted the law minister out through another door. The prime minister and Azeri president also heard the scuffle while presiding over the signing ceremony of accords between both countries. Later during lunch, the prime minister asked Wasi Zafar to keep his cool. online

Anwar: Some of the documents regarding Pakistan from 50s, 60s and 70s have been declassified by certain foreign governments. Reading these documents provides an insight regarding making and unmaking of governments and personalities in Pakistan. This stuff is just amazing. And our poor and innocent awam at the behest of our politicians come out in the streets to destroy what ever little infrastructure we build. I just wonder what diplomatic dispatches are being sent out from Islamabad at this very moment as we speak. What fate is being sealed for our beloved home land. The greed and corruption of our leaders will keep us paupers and beggars for ever. It is fashionable to talk about our own mishandling of the East Pakistan tragedy yet we say nothing about the treachery of our own leaders and the dirty plays of outsiders. Now we hear rumblings about Baluchistan and mishandling by our leaders yet we know nothing about the treacheries of our leaders and conspiracies of outsiders. May God save this land of our fathers and their grand fathers from all ills internal and external.
