    I remember Shahid Afridi when he used to play against our teams in Gulshan Iqbal. Our team used to play with his team since he used to live 3 streets further to us.

    Shahid started with his game in tape ball and was a popular tape ball LAPAAROO (a slang term we used to use for player used to try sixes for each game). After a while he was a good player in gulshan where he used to represent a number of teams in the games.

    I remember the first time when he got a break in Australia where he brought laurels to home. We had small celebration in honor for him in our Mohalla where he brought his Man of the series Cup.

    Interestingly, we have a small market where his brother used to come for shopoping. He was always bombarded with questions like “yaar aaj tumharay bhai nay koi chakka nahin lagaya” or yaar aaj woh out of gaya”. Sometimes his brother would get annoyed of the questions.

    @BitterTruth,

    Imran and other older players did not play as much one-day cricket…ODIs really started during their time with the Kerry Packer stuff and everything.

    I think Wasim’s generation was the first that had regular ODIs from when they started playing.

    2 surprises in the article
    i) Shahid surpassing Imran
    ii) his actual name is so long “Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi”
    :)
