Adil Najam

In times of pain – and these are times of pain – we sometimes need music to soothe our hurt. Sometimes we need to raise our voice to join others who are also crying out in pain.

We do so, not because it will ease their pain, but merely because it might – just might – ease our own pain.

Frankly, I’m sick of songs like this one. Why are we trying to show the world that we’re against terrorism?

Why does a country that has suffered the MOST (yes, the most, in terms of lives, and other material wealth) at the hands of terrorists need to do this?

Are the burnt bodies of our people not evidence enough?

Nice song. We must dissassociate from these killers terrorists. They do not speak for me and nor can they kill other Muslims in my name.

    Yeh Hum Hai!..
There are outside forces taking advantage of weakness of Pakistanis, but I agree there are a lot of homegrown terrorists. What happened at the red mosque wasn

For god sake . Let people get out of this crap of ” yeh hum nahi”.
It is our very own home grown terrorism.

Adil thanks but we have reached the condition beyond pain.

But I will say one thing that each time terrorist strike, my resolve to fight them multiplies. Just like many of us, I think people are lining up to fight terrorism. The common men has come to their senses.

I would add fighting these terrorists is not hard at all. What we need is a clear multi-pronged strategy and resolve to excute it for a decade, at the least because this fight will go on for many more years before we can control it.

One element of this strategy should be to win over the tribal folks and making sure of their safety and security. Making sure that all of us tell them that they are not abandoned. Also making sure State of Pakistan does not engage in retribution against people. Also, Pakistan needs to invest in fighting the internal insurgenies which has been pointed out by many analyst.

The other key element would be to carryout target killings of taliban leadership. Not to digress but to give a good example. During Karachi Operation in the ninties, State authorities were in the state of confusion for sometime but when they got their acts together they were able to squash terrorist element within MQM. (let me explicitly say that I oppose how State of Pakistan resorted to extra-judicial kilings in Karachi). But around at the end of 1995 and beginning of 1996, the State authorities were effectively going after only the key terrorists (Fahim Commondo, Javed Michael, and Raheem Kana, etc.). This was possible because of good intelligence and knowing how terrorist operated. Their intelligence was so effective that can not even imagine and they knew how they were after. They had started to differentiate between common Karachities and terrorists though in the proces the state made many mistakes.

Next, we need to stop funds and weapons reaching these terrorists and start to weave a noose around them.

I know the geography is an issue but it is not the first time in history that insurgents and rebellions are being fought in rough terrain.

Overall, strategy matters and one that tries to keep itself reiventing and does not loose the surprise element.

I think the biggest missing element that was absent that is support from commen men is now present. Inshallah, we will win this war and root out terrorism in Pakistan.
