To compete with the grandeur of Abul Haul (The Sphinx) in Egypt, Karachi has come up with its own version. Should we call it Abul Hathi?

Currently there is some development work going on in front of Safari Park in Karachi. While the road pavement has been dug out, this elephant statue in front of the park has been given temporary support until work is completed. Note a 4-conduit pipe has also been placed under the trunk of abul hathi for support.

I do find a touch of sarcasm in the article of Owais Moughal,
and personally I agree with the sarcasm (if I am correct in the above stated).

    1) -If we really want to compete,
do it properly, not with a feet-high elephantitis…

    2) and as stated by other commentors,
don`t the issue regarding water ought to be resolved “pre-”
any such iniative as this “Abul Haulistis” at minor scale ??

“Should we call it Abul Hathi”? We better call it “Abul Feel”, because Hathi in Arabic is Feel.

I agree with roxio’s comment… these beautification projects come in after people’s basic needs have been met.

However, on the lighter side of reality, I also endorse Owais’ suggestion, Abul Hathi would be suitable. :-D

Awesome! I miss seeing elephants in Pakistan. They are so common in Sri Lanka where I grew up. I don’t understand how you can have elephants in India but not in Pakistan?

Another of City Government’s waste of funds on useless projects going by the name of “beautification”.

Karachi doesn’t need fountains and parks. It needs a system of water supply that delivers clean drinking water. It needs an efficient system of electricity that works round the clock.

There was a report in the media that the city governemnt wasted Rs.22 crores on a useless fountain spouting towards the sky. What a waste of money. The same could have been used to improve water and sanitation to thousands of homes.

I know why the world’s ‘second best mayor’ is not doing that.
Improving sanitation supply will never be visible to the voters and is a low profile project,it will not deliver accolades for MQM.Fountains and parks will bring instant admiration for Altaf Bhai.
