This news is a day old but important enough that we don’t want to ignore it. Maulana Abdus Sattar Edhi has won the UN award for his work in promoting tolerance and non-violence. He shares the award with a Belgian human rights activist Franois Houtart.

We are happy to see Pakistanis being recognized for non-violence and tolerance.

The recognition that Edhi has got is called the ‘UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)-Madanjeet Singh Prize’. This prize was created in 1995 to advance the concept of tolerance in arts, education, culture, science and communications. It is awarded every two years.

I am feeling so proud because I have met him couple of times while I was collecting cow/goat hides during BaqraEid from 1985 to 1988 on my brother’s Vespa without driving license. As one of my friends asked me once, which bit was better meeting Edhi Sahab or riding without license? At that age riding bit was more exciting then meeting the true legend but of course now views have changed.

He would not win a Nobel as the jury is unfair and give it for political reasons. Often times, the award is dictated by the US and Western powers.

  4. Waqas says:

I agree with Natasha, well said. Edhi is just amazing, no worlds can describe what her has been doing for Pakistan, may Allah give him long life so he can keep serving my great nation, Amin
