Adil Najam
Today is March 23. Pakistan Day.
Today, let us listen to the Pakistan National Anthem one more time. Not just ‘hear’ it. But actually listen to it. The words, with its heavy Persian influence, may be difficult for some. But the meaning is not. Nor should the passion.
We have written about the history of the anthem (including about Prof. Jagan Nath Azad, the creator of Pakistan’s first national anthem) before. And we hope to write about it again, including how this current national anthem came to be.
But today, on Pakistan Day, let us sit back, take a minute, to listen and to concentrate. To concentrate on the promise and on the prayer that is Pakistan’s national anthem.
Let us listen to it again:
And, yet again:
These are testing times for Pakistan. So much has gone wrong so quickly. We’ll hear more speeches and more platitudes on this day.But Pakistan faces an uphill struggle.Pakistanis will have to make many more sacrifices and fight all enemies, both internal and external. And I wish for a modicum of good governance.
I had not seen this version of the anthem before. Very goo job and with so many of the great singers. Thanks for sharing.
Congrats to Prof. Najam on his Medal today
saw it on TV
Loved both the videos, but specially the first one which was so emotional and made me think of the tarana in a new light.
We have been through though times from decade but specially from 2 years.Economics at its worst of 2 % GDP, thanks to TTP+Al-Qaeda ! In 2006-2007 alone Pakistan have 8.1 billion dollars foreign investment but now local investors are running to Dubai,Europe and even to Bangladesh.Governance is worst and corruption scandals are on thier way. But still on 23rd March , if we have only few inviduals like these , there must be a silver lining in the dark
