KARACHI: A doctor has been arrested on charges of blasphemy in Hyderabad, police said on Sunday. Naushad Valiyani was detained on Friday following a complaint by a medical representative who visited the doctor in the city of Hyderabad. “The arrest was made after the complainant told the police that Valiyani threw his business card, which had his full name, Muhammad Faizan, in a dustbin during a visit to his clinic,” regional police chief Mushtaq Shah told AFP. “Faizan accused Valiyani of committing blasphemy and asked police to register a case against the doctor.”
Shah said the issue had been resolved after Valiyani, a member of the Ismaili community apologised but local religious leaders intervened and pressed for action. “Valiyani had assured Faizan that he did not mean to insult the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) by throwing the visiting card in the dustbin,” Shah said, adding that the police had registered a case under the Blasphemy Act.
Please tell me, who is insulting the Prophet (PBUH) in this case (as in so many others)? Who is the real “threat” to the “Namoos-e-Rasool“?
Using the Prophet’s name in vain and for spreading personal and petty hatred is itself an insult to the Prophet’s (PBUH) message and person. Anyone who cares for “Namoos-e-Rasool” should feel insulted and incensed at how this “namoos” is being ridiculed by the purveyors of hate in the name of blasphemy.
Maybe we should have a law against parents naming their children ‘Muhammad’. Let me confess I have two children whose middle name is ‘Muhammad’ and I sometimes do end up shouting at them or chiding them for not doing their homework. Does this, now, also count as blasphemy?
For Allah’s sake, give me a break. Please! If not me, at least give the Prophet (PBUH) a break!
P.S. For those unable to read Urdu, the verse at the top of this post is from Iftikhar Arif: “Rehmat-i-Syed-i-Lolaak pey kamil eeman / Ummat-i-Syed-i-Lolaak say khauf aata hai.” I hope readers who are better translators than me can provide a translation befitting this verse.
I really think that we should start taking all people preaching hatred in name of religion to courts under existing laws, including those abusing other religion. This incident is shameful just as everyone who is trying to defend this idiotic action is itself hateful.

You don’t need to ask the psuedo liberals on how you should treat people who insult the prophet (PBUH). Just follow the sunnah of the prophet on how he dealt with people who not only insulted him but brutally assaulted him (from the women who used to dump garbage on him to the incident of Tai’f).

If I hear someone say bad things about our Prophet (PBUH), I will try to explain what Islam is about and what it represents. If the person still plays idiot, I will walk away. Slapping or killing him does not represent Islam. Our Prophet (PBUH) did not ask his ummah to make sure that we guard his name. He asked his ummah to live peacefully, preach Islam and abide by Islamic laws. I rather use my resources to be an ambassador for Islam instead of giving it a bad name for stupid laws that some military dictator enacted for political gains. By walking away, I am not a “kafir” neither does my love for the Prophet (PBUH) is any lesser. I am the intelligent one who knows it is useless to argue with an idiot. He has his own opinion and I respect it.
BTW, do you know how many teachers in our school beat up kids because they unintentionally say bad things about Prophet (PBUH)? I once forgot to write PBUH after prophet’s name and not only I got a failing grade in my exams, I was also hit on my knuckels with a steel ruler 50 times while the entire class watched. I was crying, eyes red and embarrased. Not only that, the teacher called my dad and told him that he needs to get his act straight and teach me how to love Prophet. To be honest with you, I hated our Prophet for several days after that…I questioned Islam time and again until my dad sat down with me and explained to me what Islam is all about, the assertoric meaning of Quran.
So you tell me, did our Prophet tell us to hit kids in such barbaric way or did he ask us to love them?
When you know the answer to this, you will understand Islam and our Prophet (oh PBUH) much better and will realize what Islam is really about.
Anyone misusing the law to serve his/their own interests must be punished.Lets not forget Islam binds the rulers into fully protecting the rights of minorities.This right was ordained by the Prophet(PBUH)and put into practice by the succeeding Khaleefas.
At the same time,anyone found guilty of insulting the Messenger of Allah(PBUH) must also be severely punished,provided the charge is proven.
Psuedo Liberal: Like I always ask my liberal friends, don;t be coward when discussing on forums. When you guys don’t have courage to use your original identity and feel ashamed to hide your own faith then how would you learn the “evils enemy” of yours that is “Right Wingers”?
Now come to your question, A person can’t claim to be a Muslim if he just respects Muhammad(saw). The darood we Muslims recite covers every Prophet from Abraham(as) to Muhammad(saw) and their family people which is efficient proof what’s the status of other Prophets for us and every one knows that prior to Muhammad(saw), all Prophets(AS) were respectable for Jews and Christians too.
Now since you mentioned “sects” which actually was your real question rather having love of other religion’s follower. If I discuss Qadyanis then I have no respect for them. Their faith itself is an abuse. One could not have any issue with them if they would not have advertised themselves as Muslims but they invented their own prophet, injected their own teachings. This is not different if some university publicizes certain group of students as fake graduates just because they were not certified from that particular institute. Ain’t we all reading about “Jaali degree case” these days?
BTW, who said your “other sects” don’t do this. This is not story of ancient times when your “shia brothers” declared Molana Asrar ahmad a Kafir and Wajibul Qatal because Molana Asrar discussed a fact from history for Ali(RA), who is considered naozobillah equal of God,that he was drunk while praying. Entire Khi walls were turned blacked by your “non millitant” brothers with Fatwas or what nto against Asrar. So pls brush up your knowledge first.
