Lately no news coming out of Pakistan seem to be good news. This afternoon I started writing about Benazir’s return in lighter words focusing on hilarious statements coming out of our politicians on her return and then this horrific news of scores of people dead started coming in. My lighter mood vanished totally and now I am left wihout words and more questions like, Why? Who? what now? etc.

The headline news on CNN reads as follows right now:

An explosion near the motorcade of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killed at least 110 people and injured 200 more, officials say. Bhutto, returning after years in exile, reportedly was unhurt.

While we are glad that she remained safe, our sincere prayers are with those innocents who lost their lives.

I gave up hopes of any improvement in the state of Pakistani society many years ago. What one can expect after seeing all the hatred spread by so called guardians of religion , survivors of old feudal system and by people without ay conscience, who will not hesitate to play with innocent lives for their own good. This society needs a major catharsis and that still has to come. One can not treat gangrene by putting bandaids, it has to be resected.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Simon here. The discussion on this page borders on the childish and peurile. If we can’t condemn a heinous act unreservedly, regardless of our politics, and are caught up instead on bickering and who said what and random conspiracy theories, it’s time for wellwishers of Pakistan to find another cause.

Raza, that was uncalled for, and you are right in getting that taken off. However when my two comments, which merely tried to discuss the “Why?” of this tragedy, are removed, I sure can question the judgment of whoever is moderating the site. That said, you guys are doing a great job, and I like many others are all praise for it. Thanks

Temporal: Your questions are valid !

AUK: Sir/Madam – I do not moderate the comments here but when some reader left a comment that was graphic in nature – playing up the obsession with a woman’s anatomy, I requested Owais to delete that – what would this comments thread look: a place where people respond to a national tragedy by discussing #$%ts.
