Owais Mughal and Adil Najam

Today was the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal in Pakistan and Eid Milad-un-Nabi – marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) – was celebrated across the country. ATP offers Eid Milad-un-Nabi greetings to all its Muslim readers. As pictorial special, we share these photographs from Dawn and APP of the different ways in which Pakistan prepared for the celebrations today.

  1. Adnan Siddiqi says:

S.A.F: The days are gone when only “Professional” Molvis used to do that. In modern days every one has become a religion’s expert and busy to sell their “items” in the shelter of Islam. Those who are selling Olper Milk or Tasty Supari are not molvis but yet using Islam to earn more bucks. Similarly media’s “nannay mujahids” like Zaid Hamid and Nadeem .F.Paracha are not typical Mullahs yet using Islam to run their homes.

Some one rightly said this evening that the days are not far when we will be hearing about “Namaz-e-Eidun Miladun Nabi” and people would be offering namaz in play grounds.

all this display of banaspati piety is really sickening …

I guess yeh bhi hai Pakistan.
The badges, the flags, the innocent fellow playing like a kid with little dinkys in the display set up. In many ways what is happening here is very much like what happens at Christmas. Little to do with religion but ways for ordinary people to show their faith and also enjoy.

  4. S.A.F. says:

@Adnan Siddiqui, who says “Using Mohammad(saw)’s name to earn Money.”

For once I agree. Bt isn’t that what all maulvis do all the time!

  5. The first picture IS from Hyderabad. Do not know exactly which mosque, but certainly Hyderabad.
